Certainly exhibits the correct symptoms.
The questions is ... if this vent valve fails, does it fail once and for all? or can it be an intermittent failure?
In my case, it failed on one day, on 2 separate attempts.
Additional data points:
Maybe it was stuck due to the cold or lack of use? Who knows?

Additional data points:
- The car had been sitting over the holidays for maybe 3-4 weeks or so.
- Probably a few weeks before that since last fueling.
- It was in the early morning and cold (well, South Carolina cold).
- Power supply to the valve would have been interrupted (reset?) mid-day when I checked fuse
- Fuse checked out good on a multi-meter
- Worked just fine later that day
- Have checked several times since and can hear valve click open when fuel filler valve #1 is depressed
- No problems since that one day.
Maybe it was stuck due to the cold or lack of use? Who knows?

Thanks, that is the kind of experiential feed back I was looking for. So in fact it can be an intermittent failure . Thanks, I will get busy with a replacement now rather than cross my fingers each time I pull up to the pump.

34k.
In all fairness, this was the 1st (and possibly last?) intermittent failure, but I don't defer maintenance.
Seems like this is an easy enough DIY project and something that is worth doing to eliminate the off chance of getting stranded with no gas at a gas station. These fuel tanks are small enough as it is without adding fill-up paranoia to the mix!

since summer mine has developed this peculiar behavior. it allows me to fill up to the first auto-shutoff, but i used to be able to get that 2nd clicks worth of gas ( maybe one more gal? ) but i haven't bothered with trying to replace anything since i dont know to what to replace, and the one click auto shutoff thankfully occurs at full tank/gauge..its just not FULL.

This thread might offer some insight.... Sounds like some year 996's/986's had vent hoses that shook out of place and could physically prevent the shutoff flap from opening.
