Question not so smooth shifter?

Has anyone experienced less than ideal shifter behavior on the stock shifter when getting back into 1st when downshifting?
My shifter/linkage/cables seem very smooth when the car is not moving and upshifting is pretty smooth. But when downshifting sometimes it is fairly "stiff" getting back down into 1st; sometimes I need to double clutch or go back into 2nd, then first. I have never heard or felt any synchro/gear grinding or improper meshing. Is this typical with fixed and floating synchros, which I believe this transmission has?
I'm sure someone in this group knows for sure.
Thanks

Lewis,

I've experienced the same symptoms since my car was new. It has loosened up a bit with mileage, but it could be a lot better. Some '01's have had warranty work done on the gearbox, or replacement. Porsche's attitude seems to be that stiff shifting and a cumbersome gearbox is not a warranty or quality issue, but they'll warranty repairs if it gets much worse. (jumps out of gear, or locks out).

I remember driving a '02 C4S when I was over in Germany last time and didn't recall the shifter being so tight/awkward (but then again I was having so much fun driving all night I probably would not have noticed anyways)
I was more curious if this is just a problem with my car or more of a generic one. My dealer did not mention if my TT was under a TSB for the shifter/transmission.

In my experience, ALL cars will resist going into first gear - the Porsche is no exception. Just be gentle and make sure you don't force it. If you aren't hearing grinding noises you're probably fine. It might get easier with time.

Enjoy!
