Turbo Allocation

Turbo Allocation
PCNA has released the allocation for Aug - Oct production and there will be less than 400 Turbos for the US market. So much for the anticipated increase in Turbo production. This model will continue to be very limited.

Wise strategy for Porsche. I think they pulled back on their pre-stock bust ideas to keep alive atleast a slight shortage of turbo cars. Otherwise the perception of easier availability will decrease desirability atleast amongst a few which will then lead to inventory build up due to bailout of speculators and other demand increase causing customers, especially if coupled with a not too quickly recovering economy or a slight increase in pricing.
So, I think its an admission of some healthy fright as regards the economy. Even if they suspect only a 50% chance of no quick recovery I think they needed to do it since there is a snowball effect with inventory build up. Am sure, as a dealer you know how the table turns very quickly!!

I wonder what the overall delivery status is at dealers in general? I have a deposit down to order a Twin Turbo and have been resisting going into the after market to pay an inflated price on one already in the US. Besides, it would be much more enjoyable if not appropriate to a car of that price to have done "bespoke" so to speak. I have been hoping that my number would come up so that I could be looking at a winter 2001 or a spring 2002 delivery.

Since I have one in hand, so to speak, I too feel ok about Porsche's actions to keep supply short of demand. I, unfortunately, was not on the list but was overcome by temptation - a black on black example on dealer's showroom with only 80 miles on the odometer. Some consolation re the aftermarket premium - the very early buyers paid quite a bit more than the spread circa February, 2001. I also got one of the first cars with hollow spoke wheels. Love the car, but wish Porsche would offer it without some of the gadgetry - e.g. power seats, sun roof. Wish rear seat deletion were available also - as in the GT2 and GT3. Good luck to all!

Agree totally with Garey Cooper and Steve N 996TT especially if paying over MSRP or even MSRP.
For me, to pay MSRP, I would want it "bespoke" (with delete sunroof option and with sport seats, etc.).
Steve N - you can delete sunroof on the 996TT. So, yes, Porsche does indeed offer the turbo without some of the gadgetry atleast insofar as you include sunroof as part of gadgetry. Whenever I order a car, I order it without sunroof. Am not clear on the rear seat deletion but thought that it used to be offered. Trust you knew this and made an informed decision to pay the premium over MSRP. As long as you did not pay too much, I guess you probably did not lose out as there is always luxury tax and the agony of waiting to contend with.

Yes, the sunroof delete is an option - I shouldn't have included it on my list of desired alternatives. Unfortunately, the only way I could own one of these cars within a reasonable time frame was to accept what was available on the aftermarket. My ideal version if I were ordering a new one would be a little more akin to the GT2, but with PSM. AWD would be acceptable as well.

My guess is that if Porsche does only deliver US spec cars in Europe twice a year, it is so they can aggrogate the import of the slightly used cars.
Part of the program covers import and delivery to your home dealer after your return.

Our waiting list over here is still around 1 year for the Turbo
I don't know exactly how the European Delivery program works... but it's been impossible to find a Turbo even to test drive. There just are none around.
I think they sell them all in America!
