Some more close ups. Some setting, timing, adjusting (cams for example) and using big **** wrenches. Tag teaming and more Porsche tools. I knew we needed them for something. And the long block is back together once again.

Alex, does that engine have my old Stage 4's on??

When you scroll down thru the pictures you can't miss the ceramic coated turbine housings and billet backplates.

Nice rebuild.. Maybe you can buy James a real engine stand for the next engine

Kevin thanks man- of course Good spot! I believe that you sold them to StephenTi? Too much power clearly

James only has three engine stands (the bastard!) two of which we're using for another 996TT engine and a 930 (mine/his). We were half way through so... At least it's a good yoke:P

PPS I actually need to drop you a line about these clutches. Gotta get something that can deal with 700plus and not be too silly to drive with a LWF. You know what I mean? I hate the ones with the crazy high release point...

Hi Michael,

THanks for the kind words. The motor had 34K on it. Quite modded (around 600 or so right Kevin?) and there are a number of possibilites here but the most likely actually a bent valve from an over-rev (software originally on it went past the rev limiter). Once the valve bent and a chunk came off bad things happen. The liner cracked, piston lost a chunk. Rubbing and so forth. Not too happy. The rods bending but also twisting was a first.

Scott was so fortunate with the rod. It would have been ugly if it let loose and cut the case and crank up..

Yups- we figured it really could have been a lot worse (even tho it wasn't good). I've seen 964's with sweet holes in the case before in the Bay Area. Speaking of cases... next time I do mine, I'm going Spanish!
