Unless I missed something, here is the some current input which supports the position that the GT3 is faster than the TT. And I don't think minor modifications ($10000) will make up the difference.

On Page 16 of the current issue (April) states......"the 1999 production GT3 set a Nurburging record (Rohrl) at 7:56.33. It's also said that he estimates this new car will be five to ten seconds quicker when it makes its debut at the legendary track".

That means between 7:46-7:51 which is better than the 7:56 achieved in the Turbo, and close to the old cup car at 7:49

If somebody can spend $10,000, and knock 5 seconds of the TT time, I want to go into business with that guy.

Think about it, it had to be this way as the GT3 is the "swan song" of the 996 model.

The same article states that there will be 750 for the North American market.

The 750 number bothers me, typical Porsche, keep making them until the resale goes south...

The origional Dealer Council meeting agreed to build 250 units...

The trouble comes in shaving 5 seconds off a 2 minute lap time! Shaving 5 seconds off an 8 minute lap time at the Ring isnt so hard...

With all the resources at Porsche's disposal, that's the best they've been able to do with improvements in the GT3 in 5 years.

I suspect it's more difficult than you think,

My '01 TT with Ruf exhaust and FVD ECU probably has more HP (FVD estimates 490, but who knows). The TT doesn't have 'lag' so much as a 'who the f*** lit the JATO?' feeling when you cross the line. I define lag as it existed in the 78 or 79 Turbos where you had almost nothing, then HP would increase by 100%, very quickly. The TT is more progressive, but the HP increases are still awesome, and dangerous if you are not in balance. The extremely rapid increase in HP will upset the car. In a NA car, it's much more linear and predictable. In my experience, the big difference is predictability.

Looks like new GT3 is marginally quicker than TT in a straight line (at speed) and with its much lower weight, better suspension, bigger brakes and wider front tires, it should out-handle and out-brake the TT on a track pretty handily...

Watt --

I won't drive the 959 for some time.

And what I meant before wasn't that I didn't know what Turbo Lag was, it was that I don't think it is Turbo Lag that is causing the problem anymore. It is merely having turbos that causes the problem.

What are you using for the canyons now, watt?
