cjv,

Are you attending the Concourso this year?

Wilber and I were thinking about going up there. We hope to meet you in person soon and check out this amazing project you have put together.

Isn't the RUF a narrowbody car? I think that adds 7-10 mph vs a similar widebody.

RUF can be narrowbody and widebody, it depends on what you want.

Ours is widebosy, with the shorter 6th gear, top speed is 210 rather than 215+ but it does get there quicker i guess

all the best

Was that benz using race gas and what boost level was used? Same questions for the Supra. That is very impressive for the Benz but the other car to look out for is the Audi RS6 once it is chipped, etc... It too has a V8 with 2 turbo's but I think it is lighter and has a 6 speed man.

Either was, the narrow body car is going to reach much higher speeds.... now wether or not it's 'stable' up there is a different story. I remember reading a test w/ Mario driving a CTR-2 and being scared of the car at speed.

I have taken my TT up against a friend's chipped '03 S55 on the 280 Freeway starting from a dead stop (sand hill road exit to page mill) to about 140 and the S55 was about 3 car lengths ahead. Granted the TT is is the first manual trans. car I've owned but I was confident that my driving was borderline abusive.

Theough any turns though, the intrusive body stability electronics in the MB prevent it from catching my TT.

OK, with some trepidation, I'll chime in.

I have an '03 TT and an S600.

The S600 is *surprisingly* fast, although it feels... lumbering... to start. The inertia of the flippin' thing is a bit terrifying. And it corners a little differently than my TT

The TT feels much, much, much faster off the line, and corners *so* much better. It certainly feels faster (my neck hurts more in the TT...)

I feel safer @ high speeds in the TT, but feel safer in SF traffic in the Merc.

All in all, different horses for different courses, or something like that.

The fastest 911T in the quartermile was Eddie Bello's drag car which ran in the 9's which shows the potential of the flat six engine but other then that I have never seen a 911TT run lower then 12's in the quartermile.
I think a modified 911TT can but has anyone seen it happen or do any of you have any time slips? If there are any that run under 12 the what kind of modifications does it take? Im just curious.

I've seen Sharky run his lightly-modified 996 turbo into the 11s repeatedly on street tires. His car is an automatic, which helps for dragstrip launches.

And as 5th gear says, it's a very different car from the S600. They both have their plusses.

490hp 993 RUF Turbo R at River's Edge Raceway in Mission, B.C. 11.9 @ 128mph (soft launch, but look at that MPH!)

Also saw a claimed 700hp (yeah right!) 993 Turbo at the same track run a 11.7 @ 125mph.

my wife has a green S600 which i think is the best 4 door fast luxury sedan. we use it when we have greater than 2 people going out. they are fast but they're pigs in weight, try a corner or 2. same reason i won't own an sl 65, 55 , e55 or m5, just too heavy and hard to corner and stop.

and when you compare S600 to stock gt2, both top of the lines, guess who wins acceleration in a straight line and says goodbye after 1 tiny turn?

these cars have different uses, the underlying point that MB has taken off the HP/T gloves and Porsche has not is dreadfully obvious. i said in 6/2000 when my TT first hit, it should have been delivered w/ 500 HP/500 ftlb.
i do agree that porsche needs to win the HP/T battle as well as the handling/braking battle.
