B&M vs. RUF Short Shift Kit.....

After 3 months of what felt/feels like rowing a boat, I need to upgrade to a SS Kit.
The B&M and RUF seem to be the most popular. I've also heard that both B&M and RUF parts can be combined for an even shorter throw???
Can anyone provide feedback on either one, or both?
In terms of installation, is it a DIY procedure or best left for the dealer to do? I'd prefer one that is a simple replacement that involves no major modifications (e.g., cutting, driling, etc.).
Finally, where's the best place to purchase the ss kit? Price?
Thanks....

cjv,
I was under the impression the EVOMS short shifter had two distinguishing characteristics. The first is the metal roller bearings in lieu of plastic bushings and the second is a steel heim joint connection. BTW, your car looks and sounds (from the posts and pics) fabulous!
wilber,
I have read many posts about this elusive IMEC shifter and the impressions are usually positive. Can you share any information about it? What makes it any better than the EVOMS or B&M? Are there any pictures available?

EVOMS utilizes the stock shifter mechanism while upgrading the bushings to roller bearings and the stock plastice link to a shorter type of ball-socket link end. The B&M completely replaces the stock plastic mechanism although it incorporates bushings somewhat like the stock shifter. The forward bushing can be adjusted to achieve a desired side to side tension or preload on the shifter. IMHO, you can lose with either Vs stock!

<strong>BCS996tt,
I installed the EVOMS and Ruf short shifter. The Ruf is set on the 50% reduction setting. The EVOMS and the B&M are similar. I believe the difference being the EVOMS is some type of plastic while the B&M is metal.
My shifts are like a "click." About 1" (a little less) throw from gear to neutral and another 1" (or less) to the next gear. I really like it.

Chad,
is there such a "combo kit" that I can purchase? Or, do I have to purchase both kits and use misc parts from both?
I was quoted a price of $450 from Ruf, is that a decent price for the kit?
Finally, is installation a DIY job? Local dealer wants to charge me 500.00!?!

Are the cables a weak point? Since the RUF kit shortens the links on the transmission it will proportionally increase the load forces on the cables and end links. Could this cause reliability problems with the stock shifter and cable used by the RUF? The other shifters work by moving the cables faster but with less force.
