Default TT Tranny Issues?

Anyone hear of problems with the TT transmission failing or popping out of gear when parked?

Anyone else? If so, what has Porsche's response been? Is there any official response? Bulliten or Official reports?

Do not tell them that you track you car or they will blam it on racing and driving hard. What year is your TT? Is it an X50?

It's not my car. It's a friends who has NEVER tracked it, and probably never would.
Driven gently if not rarely.
He mentioned this issue, and I was curious if others have expereinced it. And if so, what Porsche's response was.

Depends upon the dealer and what they think when they drop the tranny. It could be a total replacement to total out of pocket expense for the owner.

I think that it's limited to '01 and '02 cars. Haven't heard of any newer ones suffering because of it.

Default Transmission failure ...

Mine required a replacement (about $12k). In my case, Porsche couldn't have been more hostile, uncooperative, and insulting if they tried. The transmissions are very weak in the 996 Turbo and all used Turbos should be suspect unless the transmission has been replaced. Porsche is claiming that transmission failure is caused by ‘abuse’ and is refusing to cover under warranty. Essentially PAG is not allowing customers to track their cars anymore, and not making this policy clear at the time of sale. This is BIG news.

I'm having trouble posting the link, but if you search for "New transmission needed on 2003 X50: Porsche refusing to cover under warranty", you can get my long sorry saga. Your friend will need a new transmission.

Try this:
My long, sorry saga of transmission replacement

PS -- Mine is an '03 X50. All 996TT's appear to have this issue.

Wow - interesting stuff.

The TT in question is fine, and the transmission is functional. However, when parked, it popped out of 1st gear by itself, and rolled. This was on a 1 to MAYBE 2 degree incline.

I have heard that this is a known issue for the TT (2001 I believe), and I am trying to research it.

The tranny did not fail per se - but it did pop out of gear by itself.

I bought my 01 new; I've never had a problem with the trans... Non-Turbo 996's have a pos trans, I've had 5 trans in two cars... I will say they were all replaced under warranty, no questions asked.

I agree with mike, I was accused of abuse (no type two over revs) I had to pay for a rebuild. Any tranny problem would make me concerned Kevin and I would be worried.

My crystal ball says your friend will be carefully researching the cost of a trans rebuild or checking the trade-in value of his car. AS

The dealer is handling the tranny - and "repacking" it? That's third hand info so I may have the terms wrong.

The concern is we've heard rumors of the 01 TT Tranny popping out of 1st when parked, and rolling. I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this issue, or seen the car rolling when in gear.
