From the perspective of the tranny, the output shaft. I am not a mechanic just a user.

An easy way to remember is the INPUT shaft connects to the engine and the OUTPUT shaft drives the axle.

I'm going to drop it off at evo early next week and see if they can diagnose the problem..
Please don't mind my curiosity..."stiffer" how ? Stiffer, meaning pushing into gear, pulling out of gear - I ask only out of unfamiliaritay. I ask also because I'm interested in the "short-throw shifter"

its pushing INTO gear...

Funny thing is yesterday I went to my stealer to get my front pads changed when I was there I asked them to grease the clutch pedal mechanism to eliminate this slight creaking noise...

When I got there in the end of the day beside the fact I felt raped $800 to change pads, pad shocks and change brake fluid!!! I didn't I do it myself... DAMN. The service manager said in the end that about the clutch noise was due to the fact I needed a new clutch. The fact tha the clutch was getting too stiff was putting an extra efford on the pedal thats why the noise is becoming more apparent...and finished saying:

"...when we change the clutch we clean and grease the shaft and you woun't believe how smooth the shifting will be!!!"

I smiled and replied I know, I know...

~~~~~~ (Thread Necromancy Occurs here) ~~~~~~
Thanks to the people who posted in this thread. Just wanted to let you know that this thread continues to provide useful info for new owners of 996 Turbo (such as myself).
I am motivated to get a new clutch and get a gear oil change to solve my stiff shifting / grinding 2nd and 3rd synchros under extreme acceleration before I have to invest in a new gearset.
Nope, not 3-4. Just occasional 1-2 and 2-3, it gets difficult to throw completely. It only happens when under heavy torque. Otherwise, shifts fine.
Have you checked the shifter adjustment with the Porsche alignment tool and cable ends on the box and motor and transmission mounts yet?
Clutch slave, fluid, connections there?
If so and those are good, you're looking at opening the box.
motor and trans mounts are an x'lnt piece of advice also if happening in many gears. drivetrain flexes a lot under lateral stress. amazing how many cars may still have the old 996 t-mount. a new 997 mount is a world of difference alone. but if that's an alignment issue!? then you've dodged a multi K$ bullet.
I'll have those done before digging into the gears. Thanks for the suggestions!
