Parking Your 996TT
All TT Owners:
I have some questions: do you all worry about where you park your cars? Are you paranoid someone is going to get jealous, because they don't own an expensive, awesome, Porsche 996TT like us and will key/or scratch the car on purpose? I do, to the point I don't want to park it anywhere because I get too parnoid. Has anyone come across someone doing this to your car? I went to a restaurant the other night and worried about where to park the car. I ended up parking it in a lot adjacent to the restaurant where it was under a light and I did not have to worry about someone parking next to me. But, I spent the whole meal worried about the car. Do I worry needlessly? Should I just chill out?

I empathies with you. I too worry where to park my 05 Turbo S. I have been this way with all of my higher end cars. Last Saturday, my wife and I (without the kids) went to lunch and a play (Bombay Dreams). The play started at 2:00pm and we arrived three hours early so I could get a great parking spot and walk across the street to have lunch with some friends. Since we were early, I had my pick of just about any parking spot and still drove for 20 minutes to examine the parking structure and pick the best possible spot. Even so, I still worried the entire time (Lunch and a two four play). When we were done, I walked around my car twice before driving off.

I think we all feel the same. Most try to park in some reasonably "safe" spot but my therapist says I shouldnt worry about it so much and just enjoy my car!! So now I'm at the point where my concern is "is my car there" if the answer is yes, anything else can be taken care of with insurance and a body shop.
It is ashame not to use and enjoy the car, why do we buy them if not for that very purpose, I vote relax and enjoy or up the therapy and meds.
This is just like a similar thread on a Rolex watch forum....Gee do I wear my 5-10k watch? what if it gets scratched!!! The answer is ALWAYS use it and DON'T WORRY!!

I think about it, but I don't let it stop me. When I look back at the first ding in lots of neat cars, it was often my stupidity. In the end, it's a car, not a kid. Use it up. My greater concern is the valet destroying the clutch. A 20 to the valet generally solves that problem with the car left right in front. That's Chicago, so in LA it's probably a hundred.
My greater reluctance comes from an unwillingness to drive it if I've had a drink (always well under legal limit). It's too easy to have a lapse and get into trouble. On those nights, we take a sedan. AS

A month after I bought my car someone put a nice 4-inch crease into my rear right fender. Fortunately the car was still parked next to mine when I got there to see it. The ******* in the left rear opened his door right into my fender and didn't bother to leave a note or anything, assuming they would leave before I did.
I hate to admit it but the owner of that car likely ended up paying more to repaint his car than I did to repair my fender
