Default 996 Turbo Model Evolution

I know it has been posted before but I have searched and have not found too much information.

Other than the switch to hollow wheels and no front bumperettes in mid 2001, what other changes has the 996 turbo gone through.

I am thinking of buying one and I want to know which year to get.

Thanks

Well, the 2001 model year for the 996TT was a long year - perhaps 18 months?
First half of the 2001 years - front bumperettes and solid wheels
Second half of the 2001 years - no front bumperettes and hollow spoke wheels

2002MY - addition of the bose speaker system, x50 option, and glove box

2003MY - 2005MY, about the same as the 2002MY + the introduction of the Turbo S which included the x50 kit + PCCBs

There might be some smaller differences between the years, but those are the big things if I remember correctly.

re no glove box these cars are made with the autobahn in mind and traveling in your turbo or 997
@145-150 mph you don't have time to look in the glove box hence also the reason for no cup holders
only recently have they tried to americannize (if you will) the porsche it's built to fly not for talking on your cell phone looking in the glove box or drinking the coke @150 mph not bizzare friend really
maybe to us somewhat but driving is the main thing when you're driving it's not some you do haphazardly think about it and oh yeah get the porsche you'll love it and those that love you will love you more!! just my $0.02

My 2005 Turbo S Cab has a cup holder, but its placement renders it useless. I am never in the car for longer than 30 minutes at a time so who needs it (More for the commuter). On the other hand, the glove box is useful and holds plenty of items. Traveling at 100MPH, both of my hands are busy (I do not have a tiptronic).

Whats up with the gt2?

Any differences between 2001 and 02/03? I know 04 is a new model.

Does the 2001 gt2 also have crap spark plugs?

Default Ordering guides

My journey is beginning for my 996TT as well and so the feedback on this thread is great. Would anyone happen to have brochures or ordering guide pdfs for the 2001-2004 996TTs?

Hey fellow Houston-ite!
I ordered a brochure from e-bay. These things have hunderds of options, the best thing to do is get a list of codes from a high option car and run it through a decoder like this site has.

Another thing I did was have a dealer run my a copy of the 997 order guide, which is similar.

Cool thing about a TT in Houston is you don't see many.....I've only seen ONE in 6 months of ownership.

Thanks for the info. I have seen a few here in The Woodlands. Hell, there is one on my street. I have an old 83 911 Cabriolet which gets a little warm in this summer heat. When I lived in Michigan, I removed the A/C when my condenser sprung a leak. Its dead weight up there in the summer. It's a necessity here. A 996 turbo will be my everyday car. I love Texas!!!

Hly, nav was option on 01-02 and became standard and upgraded in 03.

Ruiner, nice summary!
