Dock,
Who knows? I can't wait to see the first road tests by the various magazines to read their impressions and see what they get for times. Should be interesting reading. If they in fact get low 3's...there will be a lot of talk about this car.

When there were rumors about a higher powered 996 Turbo in the works, PAG was very secretive about the car and the numbers. They intended to formally release the information to the world at one of the auto shows, but PCNA accidentally released the 2002 Turbo owner's manual with statistics for the more powerful car (it was the X50 option) months before PAG wanted.

Joolsbourne:
Yes, the "wart" on the dash is part of the Sports Chrono package. It is an analog clock designed for, get this, TRACK TIMES, according to one dealer! Need I refer anyone to the broken tranny thread that has eaten up about 4 pages?
Anyway, I think the car looks kinda cool, but perhaps not as cool as I would have liked. I'm upgrading from my '89 930 so I don't have quite the perspective you 996tt guys have. I'm learning to like it more and more as I wait to see one in person.

How can they be making it so cheap? $123k, I'm astounded. Comapre to anything else and it's the bargain of the century, never mind the Z06!

If you go here (Porsche link) and pay carefule attention to all of the sub catagories you can choose under every section, it explains ALL of your questions concerning overboost, Tip VS 6 speed, etc
