By "splitter," I presume you are referring to the intake plenum that goes behind the throttle body . . . it is available for both the 70 mm TB and the 75 mm TB . . . . I have one with the 75 mm TB . . . I got mine from Speed Gallery . . . the quoted 30 hp increase is based on the dyno attached below and was in the mid-range (on a mildly modified car)

Craig,
Thanks for translating the ebonics from the original post into english

This 30 HP gain is hard to believe. We had this same kind of product on Corvettes and the gain was 5-10 hp (like the NA results you posted). Why would it affect a TT much differently?

Can you feel the increase?

How much did you pay?

you must lower the motor , just lower not remove, this gives you working room....performance tells me no maf problems or ecu... am wondering if gains are so great why change to a larger throttle body ???? shark i do speak english my hands are slower than my mind speed.. and i can't read so it's hard to proof read this stuff.......

This is just an educated guess, but I would expect forced induction cars to experience greater gains with this type of intake plenum, as compared to NA cars, and and I would likewise expect higher HP cars to experience greater gains in comparison to lower HP cars.

Below are a couple of photographs of both the stock plenum and the intake plenum offered by Speed Gallery (the same plenum as that sold by Performance Products).

On the stock intake plenum, the air stream exiting the throttle body is directed to the back end of the stock intake plenum, where it collides with the plastic wall of the plenum, before the air is forced to one of the ends of the plenum. This collision of air against the plenum wall creates turbulence and back pressure. The greater the air velocity and volume, the greater the turbulence and back pressure.

On SG’s custom intake plenum, the plenum diverts the air as it flows out of the throttle body, thereby preventing a collision of air against the back end of the plenum. This diversion of the air stream reduces turbulence and back pressure, and increases air flow. The greater the air velocity and volume, the greater the reduction in turbulence and back pressure by preventing the collision of air at the back of the plenum.

This document illustrates the benefit of the plenum.

Based on the foregoing, I would expect greater improvements with forced induction and higher HP cars. Of course, as I stated above, this is merely a guesstimate and I am anything but an expert in such matters.

BTW, the same company that makes this intake plenum also makes improved intercooler end tanks and a larger Y-pipe.

I have not had any MAF or ECU problems associated with this intake plenum.

The OEM 70 mm throttle body is more than sufficient for most 996TTs. However, when you start pushing high HP, the OEM TB will restrict air flow. I think EVO MS incorporates the larger TB on their GT700 package.

Does anyone know exactly what RUF uses when they upgrade the air intake on their 550 package?

if you upgrade to a larger throttle body you MUST remap your ECU... Plain and simple...

Agreed. However, you do not need a remap for the intake plenum made for the OEM TB.
