Marty (Woodster) - 993TT vs. 996TT
Marty,
Now that you've had the "Bluesmobile" for awhile (is that the car's name going forward? How about Jake or Elwood?) I'd like to hear your contrast/comparison to the 993TT you owned (if you remember, I was one of those looking to buy). The 993TT had some appeal, but seemed to pale against '01s at similar pricing.
Some sample subjects:
Handling
Power
Ride
Styling
Interior
Build Quality
Other features (PSM, comfort, room, etc.)
Thanks

Handling: 996tt has quicker turn-in, and steering is not as heavy as 993tt
power: 996tt is torquier lower == good, 993tt was "underpowere in low
rpms.
Ride: No comparison, 996tt is a world above 993tt in ride
Styling: B is in the eye of the beholder; I love the headlights, melted tail,
and wide rear fenders of the 993tt. I love the scoops, tail, wheels, and
rear profile of the 996tt.
Interior: the 996tt is more comfortable (wider, larger rear seats for my kids),
much more modern looking interior and it just looks "clean" inside. the 993tt
had great sport seats, and I felt like I was inside a vault when I closed the door and buckled in--it felt secure!.
build quality seems better in the 993tt but it was a 10 year old car so they do
begin to show their age.
I am surprised how much I like to look at and drive the 996TT, and how much
my wife likes the way it looks and how EASY it is to drive. Pricing was the final decision maker for me, like Bruce Anderson says: buy the newest most modern 911 that you can afford. Personally if I had a bigger bucket of money,
I would spring for the 996 GT2. Maybe someday...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my recollection of the only 993tt I drove was that it had much more throttle-induced understeer. This was a street drive, and I thought it was a very prominent handling drawback. The car I drove was bone stock, but in some way may not have been typical. It definitely put me off. AS

I believe you are correct AS, after I put my "andial coilovers", etc. my turn-in
improved and I could kick out the tail at will. But I was comparing stock to
stock. Anybody else who could chime in who has owned or driven both
extensively? (By the way I also owned a 99' 996 C2, and found it boring to
look at and drive)
