Ding, Ding.....round is over, lets go back to our corners.

I think we can at least agree that we drive the greatest all-around (performance, style, quality, reliability, value) supercar on the planet. I respect all of you, modded or not, track dweller, street racer, or weekend cruiser.

One of the reasons I selected this platform is the opportunity to keep up in the "Horsepower Wars" because I intend to keep the car for a long time, of course the gas crises might end the war pretty soon (Government mandate & Insurance......just like the 70s).

Rock-on everyone

Shark, I agree with you!!! Good info on the muffler, I did not know that and will start looking for a new muffler, ?leave cats alone and change muffler is ok? and boost to 1 bar no ill effects on the engine long term? want to keep this car!!
Again, agree with your posts, good to have guys like ya on the forum, thanks for the advise!!

Tom...You can change out your exhaust system safely and the cats as well. Most guys swear by the Europipe. I have the Fabspeed quiet...others like Cargraphic, Techart and PSI are all safe bets....no problem going with high flow cats 100-200 cell. Bailey diverter valves are also a soild upgrade. Short shift is universal...almost everyone loves that upgrade.

Buddy...Your a brave man...I hope your car was not in the same room when you made those reliabilty comments....Did you have a Redwood to knock on? LOL...Would love to see that beast at a track here in the West...it must be fun.

Yes, 1.0 Bar boost is safe long term on these race-dereived turbo engines. On the cat issue, AWE insists that the 300 cell cats only increase back pressure 1 psi over 100 cell cats, which equates to about 3 hp. The exhausts for these things sure are expensive though (budget $5k). But that and a ECU flash really opens the car up.

On the short shifters, I hear there are complaints about notchiness (increased shifting effort (muscle)) required. This is also true on Corvettes I've driven, the feel was to "clunky", so I never bought one. And the Porsche shifter is silky smooth.

I'm miles from anywhere but would like to get it mine chipped. Can I post the ECU or must the car make the journey too?
An X50 with an exhaust and chip is approaching 600HP. You should really get an exhaust if you want to chip, otherwise you are just bottlenecking the car. I personally bought a Europipe 2 Quiet, and it sounds fantastic. Your turbos will spool a bit more quickly, too. But mainly, it just sounds great and it's a good idea if you plan to chip. I haven't chipped yet, but I will almost surely be going with Imagine Auto (GIAC-based software). These motors are pretty bulletproof, so you can safely and reliably run a chipped X50 without problems. For maximum reliability, avoid the aftermarket airbox (they expose the weakness of our MAFs).

Get the switcher with your chip, and you can run the stock program at the track if you like. FYI, I say "chip", but all of this is flash-loaded. You simply ship your ECU to IA (or the tuner of your choice) and nothing is soldered and no hardware modified.

I have a track event in less than 2 weeks! Ran it before with around 600 hp at the flywheel and it was a blast! Might have to dial it down a bit for the track cause 750 might be too much!

Once the stock piece of crap plastic part breaks that holds your shifter to the cable you won't care about notchy or not!

My EVO short shift feels good to me not notchy.

I agree that these motors are pretty solid to about 600 hp they are the same block as the GT1. Above 600 it is smart to get the better rods/head studs, etc.. ask me how I know!
