Default Normal Oil Consumption

I have a 05 Turbo S. What is the normal oil consumptions on these cars? It seems these cars are oil thirsty! So, what should I watch out for to maintain it properly. Your feedback or comments would really be appreciated.

My '02 Turbo averages about 1000 miles between quarts during city driving, and about 1500 miles with highway driving.

During break-in I was using a quart every 300-500 miles.

How many miles do you have on the '05..

Make sure that you get in the practice of letting the car idle prior to shutting car off, to cool down the turbochargers.

It seems that Pierre 200,000Km car is having his engine replace, has anyone heard any news? I'd love to have his turbochargers...

Dock; when did it go from 300 - 500 to the 1000 - 1500 miles? Mine drinks a qt every 300 and I have 4000 miles on the car. The dealer is talking about replacing the rings. That worries me....

John;

I wouldn't replace the rings yet.. Can you take it on the open road and vary the engine RPM for 2 hours with different loads.. The worst thin that you can do is go on a trip and put the cruise control on. The engine needs some load put on the ringset.

Kevin; In a month I'm driving it from California to Florida with a dozen stops in between. Then up to Boston and back to California with a dozen more stops. I'm having my once in a lifetime road trip. I don't care how many miles I put on it. No cruise control. And I am going to wait until after the trip for the dealer to mess with it. Maybe this road trip will do something for it?

Mine has 31,000 miles and now uses a quart every 3,000 miles. There was an excellent post a couple of years back on a regimen of accelerating in each gear. then slowing down in gear (just taking your foot off the throttle) to allow the vacuum to expand the rings against the cylinder walls to achieve seating. I found that to work extremely well. My consumption steadily dropped over the first 12,000-15,000 miles. AS

I just had the motor rebuilt in my 96 TT and the oil level didn't drop at all during the 800 mile breakin period at least to the naked eye according to the dipstick and I checked it often. I just took it in for the oil change to the normal oil and to have the heads retorqued. Not to hijack this thread but Kevin could you tell me about the I believe it was the Harrison AFR laptop program we talked about I couldn't find it and I do want to get it. Do you have the web address Thanks, Doug

The first 400 miles mine used 1 1/2 quarts. I took a 350 mile drive through switchbacks as I climbed up to the northern part of the state. I put 1/4 of a quart in about half way and checked when I got home and it was full. Take you car on a nice long drive in 2nd and third gears and I bet you consumption will go down. The other benefit to the drive is......a lot of fun

Default Cool Down

Do you really have to let a 996TT cool down before shutoff. I thopught this was just with the 993TT.

Rick, there is no basically no difference between the 993TT and 996TT turbochargers. You have to cool them down.
