Pierre,
I think that your engine costs of $0.16 per mile are extraordinary! A service life of 135,000 miles for such a complex highly tuned engine is equally extraordinary. To often I read posts that would lead me to believe that some folks don't think these things are supposed to wear out. That simply isn't true for anything ever made.
I work for the leading manufacturer of large off highway and mining equipment (Big Yellow). While our customers like to think of component life in operating hours (similar to miles on a car), we have found that engine life is a function of total fuel consumed. The engine starts with a specific amount of life to start. The rate at which you extract the life will determine how long it lasts. "Life extraction" in our business is "load factor". The harder it works, the faster you use up the engine life. "Load factor" is the percentage of actual fuel rate (liters per hour) divided by the fuel rate at rated or full power. Now our applications are quite different from passenger cars. We don't have much "stop and go" driving. We are usually at 100% load factor (pulling a load up a steep grade), or and a partial load factor as we return empty to get another load.
Just for fun, do you have any idea of how many liters of fuel you have consumed in your first engine life?
Congrats on your replacement engine,

hehe! An old thread is being revived! ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Ignacio, Thanks for the kind words!
Fred, I think the first engine had an (indicated) overall avg consumption of 14.5l/100km. So that would give us about 31'500 liters of fuel... GASP!

i believe you truly use your turbo as it is meant to be used. your clutch life was particularly impressive. with a new engine you should be good for another 200,000 km! at that rate your turbo would exceed 250k mi! that's mercedes diesel territory! please continue to keep us updated.

great to see the TT is up and running. how is the rest of the car holding up? has the cabin become increasingly loud/sqeaky/creaky? how is the leather, plastic bits. any other gremlins electrical or otherwise? how are the suspension components? have you changed/repaired anything? are the rubber control arm bearings still alright? that's pretty amazing regarding your clutch. thx

Oh boy, my engine wont last long if all the above mumbo jumbo is true, I get 4 miles/gallon on track days and go through TWO tanks of gas a day at the track!! Can anyone calculate my engines life expectancy or should I start looking for a donor cross match for an engine transplant like the above??? LOL

The interior is still in pretty good shape. Actually, it's in real great shape! There's a little creaky sound from the rear sometimes, but it's not bad enough for me to have a real look at it. Besides, everything's good.
And yes, it's louder, but that's because of the FVD exhaust...

So all in all, the car is still looking/driving amazingly well given it's (mile)age.

Hi Pierre, I thought I'd revive this thread again, as I notice that you have had a new gearbox recently according to your signature line! what was the cause of this and are you continuing to rack up those KMs at the same old rate?!

Hey Charlie,
Yes, I did a std-exchange. The cause of this? Well, the original gearbox had 256'000 km, including a lot of track-days, mountain-drives, etc. And 16'000km with the stage 3 setup. So I think it did ok, especially since it was never opened during all that time. So now I have a new gearbox, and yes, I still drive the car quite a bit...![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
