The V1 is truly awesome for all of the reasons listed above. The best place to mount it depends on the driver. Mine is hardwires high on the drivers side next to the mirror, with a remote display on the steering column. This configuration allows for no obstructions in the front view out the car, drivers behind cannot see it and "poach" protection, and from outside the car, it's not immediately visible (theft concerns). Also, with the remote on the steering column, a simple glance down suffices, and the mute is on there too. Between the V1 and a BearTracker my electronic countermeasures have thus far kept me in the clear. For the record, so called "jammers" (e.g. Rocky Mountain Radar) get poor ratings in head-to-head tests and probably aren't what they're advertised to be.

I have both the passport 8500 x50 and the V1, I bought the passport because it had pop detection and I thought if it was good I could save money on the V1 after having both i say buy the V1 esp. since it now can detect pop mode, I am selling my passport x50 on ebay tomorrow if anyone wants it

You should be comparing the Passport SRX to the V1. I've heard nice things about the SRX. It mounts with 2 units in the front and one in the back. Head unit under the cd holder.

The V! has saved my butt numerous times also. Actually I've become dependent on it.

I have a hardwire on my Cayenne S and my bike. I use the cigarette plug for the 996.

I like to mount it high because the unit also reads the rear. I had an LEO follow me for about 5 miles (on my bike) in Loisianna, & the V1 kept chirping. I was truckin' and saw this guy u Turn on the divided highway. Jeeze don't they have anything else to do?

I have two windshield suckers that I leave in both cars. The V1 slides out.

V1` rules........ Unless you're in a state where radar is illegal (Virginia?)

Drive responsibly, not in the passing lane, use turn signals and absolutely get a Valentine. No other!

Steve

Compared both my Passport 8500 and the factory installed K40 yesterday on a long drive. In several instances the 8500 picked up a signal 2-3 seconds before the K40. There were times when the K40 came on with no signal from the 8500 too. As the K40 has the laser diffuser and definitely works, albeit not as well as the Passport, so it stays.
My biggest grip though is the lack of a mute function on the K40. I've read the instructions and can't find one mentioned.

If you want to results of the latest test go to this link:

You may also want to check to see if your state has changed the law (like Colorado).

I have two K40s because they are stealth. I also have two V1s and have an 8500. The 8500 stays in its box. I did not like the 8500. The K40s are not nearly as good as V1 or 8500. I have a family member who has access to radar gun and shot my car. It sometimes reads and sometimes it is a pretty slow number that pops up. Most radar to worry about around here are Laser. I just focus down the road, watch tails lights in front of me and really don't even need radar detector. Paying attention down the road works better than the detectors for Laser, but V1 is my favorite detector by far.
