I'm inclined to favour the attributes of the built in Passport/Escort SR7 with Laser "Shifting". In my opinion, there isn't a great deal of difference in the top of the line equipment. Laser jamming capability is what really makes the difference in making a choice. Built in is a must.

2 v1's. one for the Pcar - one for the suburban.
also added the lidatek le30 laser jammer in the 951.
great combo.
i've said it here before: with the lidatek, i think i would rather get shot by laser than radar. at least i have a chance to adjust speed while the laser gun gets no reading for five seconds. slick unit.

the V1 is THE way to go for radar and laser detection.

Are you guys sure the laser jammers work. I can actually get acess to laser gun. May try Lidatec and see if works. Nothing else I have used as far as a jamming system has really worked. I think it may be more of an issue of wehter a cop gets a good clean shot at a surface area that will give a good reading. Perhaps the hit or miss is attributable to something other than a device. I don't know, but I ma curious. I used to think I was pretty stealth with all of the electronics I paid for until I ran some test with the electronics both on and off. The car reads inaccurately sometimes, but the rate of error seems about the same regardless of whether the electronics are on or off.

You're not talking about "Passive" radar jammers are you?

doug,
am i SURE they work? well, i think so. i've only had one experience with a cop with a laser gun since i installed the lidatek. (the 951 sits in the garage WAY too much..)
but yes - it was obvious that it worked. it was at a know speed trap setup here in miami beach that i noticed on the way home while in the truck. i went home and got the 951 out - and did a couple passes. the laser triggered the lidatek every time. did it jam it? not sure - i was on the limit, but didn't get any funny looks from the cop. wish i had more concrete evidence to report. if you run some tests, be sure to post.

i do think that the 951 is pretty stealthy when it comes to laser. concealed lights, rounded front end, and mine is black. no front plate. about as 'smooth' as it gets.

I second that! I have had one for years and it DOES work. Not a ticket yet with it. Of course watch me get one this weekend.

No, what the SR7 has is a shifter. It moves the laser to distort the signal.

I have the full K40s with laser diffuser and all, but we also tested the built in Passport/Escort system. I know and represent and bunch of police officers. On a couple of nights, we got together with a couple of guns just for kicks. We had several cars and bikes. I don't really want to get into the details, but we had fun.

Seems like my 996TT and my 355 read very low until we got extremely close to the gun. Another guy had a 993 TT with the Passport built in system. Hypothetically, at 1/4 or 1/2 mile out, the gun would read 20s or 30s when we were doing 50. Then when I got close the gun would be accurate. Seemed to do this with or without electronics on both K40 and the escort system when dealing with laser. I think the shape of our cars has more to do with it than electronics, but could be wrong. A pick up truck read accurately from longer distances.

I don't get tickets mainly because I watch down the road, watch tail lights and just pay attention. In fact, I have really only gotten nailed twice by cop cars without radar guns on that merged in behind me from on ramps when I was traveling at arrest me now speeds.

It is amazing how many people I see get hit by laser like 50 yards from the cop standing outside his car with a gun pointed at them before they hit the brakes when you can see the cop standing outside beside his car in the median for 1/2 mile or so down the road. Just pay attention. I think you have to get pretty close to get tagged by laser in a 996 shapped car and unless the cop is hiding in the trees or behind a sign, you should be okay. That is my purely unscientific anaylsis.

The V1 to me is best though because I know 99.99 percent of the time if it is a cop or false signal after using these things since 1998 based on the tone of the beep, the location (arrow), and the number popping up.

Well put. I completely agree.

Seems like the big shiny headlight assembly on the 996 would be an easy laser target, even without a front plate.

There's really not very much in the way of flat surfaces in the headlight assembly. The flat surfaces in the lower part of the headlight are segmented at present different small plates of reflectivity at different angles.

Once you have a built in system like the SR7 Escort, you'll never go back to a suction cup mount unit.
Plus the laser jammer does work!
