I am about to purchase a 2001 911 turbo with 16000miles on it. Fully loaded except for nav. Carbon Fiber interior. Real clean car. Black on black. What is a good price and anything I should look out for. I drove a 02 to as well and the 01 felt stronger.

TIA

I bought an 01 a month ago with 28K miles. It was Speed Yellow/black taught leather..................loaded to the gills including full carbon fiber interior. The only option of significance that it did not have was Nav. Not a fan of Nav anyway. I paid 70K even and the car was flawless with the exception of a tiny curb rash on one wheel. It did need tires but I consider those "consumeable" anyway. The big swing factor for you will be history on the car and warranty. Funny that you said the 01 felt stronger. Should be no difference what so ever. Good luck.

The service manager here in Newport Beach says the engines are not fully broken in until around 30k miles. He said many customers tell him how much better/stronger the cars feel after 30k.

Maybe the 01 had an exhaust or stiffer suspension that skewed your butt dyno? At any rate, I suggest a PPI - they should catch any glaring problems as far as the engine goes. Worth the $$$ for the peace of mind when buying used.

Can anyone confirm, or is this one of those 911 myths? If true, I'd better start driving!

Dealer over here in the UK says it takes a good 10k to break it in mainly due to the Mobil 1 oil being so good at what it does!

I got my 01 with 12k at $74k. fully loaded with Nav from a private seller. Good luck with your purchase and spend the $400 on the PPI. You'll have the peace of mind

GBG,

I agree with your tech that the cars feel stronger after 30k miles. My car has been running better and stronger than ever this year. I am beginning my forth year with the car and it has 43,000 miles. We have had hot, humid weather lately (100 degrees w/ high humidity) and the throttle/engine response has been extremely sharp, especially for these conditions. The car feels faster than I can ever recall. I am not sure if it is the EVO air intake (new this year) or the engine breaking in. I think it is a combination of the two.

Previous seasons on hot, humid days the car exhibited delayed throttle response and a sputtering hesitation on take-off. This year the car is running like a cool, fall day in 100 degree heat. I have been noting this recently and mentioned to some friends that I feel the engine just broke in.
