geegolly wizzzzzzzzz had my evo for a month or so no problems only two hun miles or so.. an takeing the car from cal to idaho next month should i take back up??????????? is this a common prob?? THANKS STEVE

Steve, I'm not sure what you mean by back-up? If you mean the stock intake, I wouldn't. If you blow the MAF the only problem is you can't get full boost (and the PSM/ABS are shut down). You will still be able to drive the car. It sounds like we should all carry back-up MAFs.

Stephen, Are you guaranteeing the that if the MAF blows you will provide a refund on the box and pay for the a new MAF? I know of three people where the MAF blew after putting in the EVO box. I'm still leary of installing the box but have heard the power increase is noticable. The dearler will be installing the EVO box.
Question: Are we just talking about a few isolated coincidences or is there a problem? Are there a lot of people that have installed the EVO box and NOT have a problem?

If your MAF reads through a proper data log and is ok I am telling Oak that his MAF will not have an issue. There as many that have no mods, no boxes, no chips that have lost MAFs as there are that do have mods and lost them. I think a few have cried wolf and the issue here is the MAF. Do a search on VW and Audi and you will find the same complaints. Like the issue with the ECUs and the spark plugs. It was never the ECU..it was the spark plugs.

I have run the EVO airbox on a daily basis for about two months, approx 100 miles per day, with no problems. Countless WOT instances. The EVO airbox improves the performance and personally, I would not want to go back to the stock airbox.

My Evo airbox story: Day before I am scheduled to drive out to Laguna Seca, my MAF blows and sets off all the usual codes. Todd from Evo says that he will send me the new non-oiled filter and that will fix the problem for good but charges me for a new MAF. I drive out to Laguna and race for three days...The MAF holds...in Vegas and at 2600 miles on my trip odometer, I drive through a small dust storm and blam! There goes the MAF again and all the codes too. I end up driving from Vegas to Denver with all the codes. Todd says that Vegas is a high dust area and I need the special dust boot.
...I am not happy...Had the MAF let loose at Laguna, I would have had no ABS, and would be out a ton of money spent to get me, my car, tires, etc to Laguna....Need a Turbo that is rock-solid when driving across country and tracking....Thinking about giving the thing back. Never had a single issue with the stock box......Hate to say it guys, I just tested the crap out of this thing and it didn't pass. I deem this Product not ready for prime time. Total miles on MAF and New filter 3,300....Car now waiting to go back to shop yet again.

JP, sorry to hear about your unfortunate adventure. I'm still not sure what a blown MAF is? I have heard so many conflicting views...like maybe it can be cleaned? Any way that does not help you now. Did you get the dry filter? Is that what you had when the second MAF codes happened?
I know in CO we also get some serious dust...do we need a "dust boot" here as well? Never heard of this before. I'm still waiting on my "dry filter" from Todd...pm'd him twice....wonder about the dust boot?
At least you made it back to CO. By the way, how did it go in LS?

Yes Wross, I had the new dry filter in the box when the MAF failed the second time...and I do not believe that this dry filter solves anything....At anytime on any road you can encounter dust from construction, a dirt road, who knows what!.....the fact that the filter is so delicate as to not be able to survive dust is not acceptable. Porsche obviously engineered these cars for no dust/oil getting through to the MAF and unfortunately the Evo box is just not cutting it in current form.
I did like the performance boost with the box, but I like a slightly slower and rock solid reliable car a lot better.

Porsche does engineer their cars with very high standards and test their cars through extreme conditions such as desert, snow/ice, and rain. That's why in stock form these are not only AWD supercars but All Weather supercars.
