are all GIAC dealerships equal
I live in the Seattle area and know there is a local GIAC dealer that can chip my tt. However, is this the same program that EVO, IA, Akkurat, etc. run? For example if I go for a stage 2, does the chip just involve flashing the ECU or does it requiring proper tuning of the engine. I am thinking about getting my more free flowing exhaust, dv, and EVO air intake put on locally: can I then just take my car into the local GIAC dealer and get the "real" stage 2 upgrade?

Yes.
All he needs to do is flash your ECU with the correct software and supply you with the Flashloader controller if requested. Certainly, the software must match the turbochargers you are using,......
You can add those mods, and then take it over to be flashed.

I think some software (e.g. level 4) is proprietary to EVO and their partners, which last I checked included Imagine Auto and PES...
Not sure if there are now more dealers as I have been out of the TT loop

I'd also recommend purchasing the GIAC flashloader to switch between stage 2 and stock modes. Perhaps it won't make a difference in your case since you'll have additional modifications but the local Barrier Porsche wouldn't warranty my faulty MAF when they discovered my EvoM stage I kit.

Technically the programs are the same, with exception to some of the very high end, customized programs as described by MSindi above, but the difference is in the knowledge and support of the tuner in building the whole package that will compliment the program. I have been more than pleased with ImagineAuto and Stephen Kaspar. Even if you don't buy from him he will take the time to educate you on the whole process... which was the main reason I went with him.

thanks for the replies. IA, Akkurat, and AWE all replied on 6speedonline and said the flash would be no problem. I got my tt through Roger Jobs, he said a free flow exhaust wouldn't be a problem to add, but dv's may cause a problem with the warranty (he admitted they would have to prove that any mods caused the problem however). FYI, Roger Jobs has been great, whenever I have needed my car serviced, he brings me either a Boxter or Cayenne, and trailers my car up to Bellingham. He then trailers my car back to Tacoma after the service is complete. I have never set foot in the dealership. He also gave me over $8000 off MSRP

jags911tt: Hello from Seattle. Well Tukwila actually. I am about 10-15 minutes south of downtown Seattle.
I am not sure on local GIAC dealers. There is one in Portland. The shop/tuner is called Matrix Engineering. The shop is well known in the Audi community but I have no idea if any Porsche guys go to him.
The local PCA is big and avtive. Here is a link to their website. http://www.pnwr.org/

Thats where we had ours done. Good work, very professional and better yet get a pre/post dyno run on a mustang dyno to see what the trouble was worth (in our case an EVOMs stage 4). Surprisingly, Barrier has seen it and provided warranty work with no grief.

killerbee: I am surprised that Barrier hasn't said anything. Of course I have no experience with them conisdering I have a 944 turbo and newly acquired 993TT. There are independent shops I go to which do a much better job on my cars. Especially the 944 turbo.

Hey Seattle Guys,
EVO has an authorized flashloading center in Bremerton: Max RPM Motorsports (360) 373-6758 Alex.
The last time I spoke to the guys at AWE they were setting up Fordahl Motorsports in Bellevue as their Flashloading center. (425) 644-6020
Both GIAC.
