Default OEM Dash Button

Hi ALL,

I am in need of a OEM dash button (lower right) that activates "ON" with each push of the button.

I want to replace my one "dummy" button with an accessory that needs to work on every push (mute button on Escort Laser Jammer). For instance if I push it quickly 2 times, both pushes activate or "turn on" (not on-off).

I posted this on the 996 forum with no luck, thought you all might be able to help.

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks

I use the muffler switch from a 996 NA car for my garge opener. You could do the same thing.

That's a good idea. I had my mute switch mounted on the backside of lane change indicator signal switch thing.

I use a footwell light switch (to activate my garage door opener. The switches typically activate a relay, so they are only momentary on switches...but you can hold it in for a continuous 'on' till the door starts moving. :-)

So I am right to assume that this would work...two quick pushes would both activate and thus "mute" the signal from the jammer (which requires two pushes of the unit button to mute) If wired into the OEM switch, no visible wires.

That IS also a good idea...but where did you run the wire?

Zippy, how high up are your "jamming" units mounted in the front grill, mine are in the 2nd from the bottom which seem to low. Seems like they should be in the the top grill slats. Let me know, thanks

Yep. Mine is a momentary contact. I realized during the install that it was designed to activate a relay. What's cool is you can set each side of the footwell switch for a different operation. I have two openers in my car, one for each door, running off of separate sides of the switch. You could use one side to do the mute thing...and the other to do the garage door. The drawback is that to get the switch to light up requires a relay, wired to the cigarette lighter in my case.

Now that IS cool!...I wanted to setup the garage door too, but only have one "slug".

I also assume that if I wanted, both could be setup to "mute" (to prevent pushing the wrong side?)

Where can i get the relay?

Thanks!

The only relay needed is for the back light. You can use any auto store relay. I'll have to see if I can find my wiring diagram, but basically, the footwell light needs a ground on a certain pin to activate the light, and the lights are positively tripped at the cigarette lighter. I tried pulling a wire from spoiler/psm switches, but they're all wired differently.

There's a pdf out there with the switch wiring...Renntech.org had it on their tech pages.

Oh...you would need relays (same one's) if you are not using a 12V+ trip circuit. In other words...I had to buy the 12V version of my garage door opener to make it work.

Exclamation

ALL the 996 oval switches are momentary, they need a relay to "latch" and provide the indicator light feedback, and need to be tied into the dimmer circuit for nightime illumination.

Doesn't your Escort have "auto mute"? Great feature!

I just have the ZR3 for jamming laser. I still use my V-1 for Radar & laser detection.
I want to hook up the dash button to replace the manual "receive only" mode remote button (which also mutes alert sound with one push). As I understand the operation of the jammer, it is recommended that you use the remote button (push twice) manually to shut off the laser transceivers once you have been "hit" and the unit jams. Some laser guns provide the officer with jamming codes. Muting essentially shuts the unit off to allow them to get a reading after you have slowed down, which should help to avoid undue attention. At least this is how I understand the fuctionality.

Am I missing something with the "auto mute" mode? Does the ZR3 have this feature? Thanks!
