Default Thinking about getting the Porsche Short Shifter, opinions please

Anyone have it? If so, what do you think?

I had the B&M ssk on my last 911 and didn't like it-- too notchy and kind of cheap feeling .

Is the Porsche OEM kit any different/better? Thanks.

The Porsche SSK is just a rebadged B&M SSK. However, there is anecdotal evidence that the Porsche SSK will make you faster due to a lighter wallet.

what other options are there?

My popo is in the shop w/ a broken shift linkage.
I was hoping to replace the super-long throw with a SSK.
Is this advisable?

Get the B&M undercar short shifter. Not notchy at all. Set at 30%. You will be very happy with it. I have had both.

For what it's worth the Porsche SSK is not a B&M. I know they appear very similar, but B&M has never been contracted to manufacture such a product by Porsche. Additionally, Porsche is aware of grinding issues with second gear that occur from this shifter being improperly adjusted during installation. You can save a few dollars buying the B&M, but should a warranty issue on your transmission arise, there is no guarantee that it will be covered. Just meine zwei pfennig.

How difficult is the B&M undercar short shifter install? Where can it be purchased? Is this a DIY?

TIA,
Adam

I have the Techart UnderCar Shifter. I love it. It's not notchy and a great improvement over stock. Plus it gives you the option to go back to stock because it doesn't destroy the stock internals like the in-car SSK. Got mine from Carnwels.

Nope. B&M makes the Porsche short shifter, and both the B&M short shifter and the Porsche short shifter are *exactly* the same mechanically. So as far as warranty work is concerned, Porsche wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they wanted to deny transmission repairs based on a B&M shifter.

I have the in-car B&M shifter and it's just great!

if one doesnt like the in car B&M, the undercar shifter is probably exactly what you're looking for.

GBG...I have the OEM Short Shifter (dunno if its B&M or not) and that's the only one I can opine about. Initially during the car's break-in the shifter was notchy, perhaps a bit stiff and required a bit of an effort.

Now after 5,600 miles and about 5,000 shifts, the notchiness is still there (part of the whole deal) but the shifter has loosened up a bit. Compared to earlier its almost Silky. The shifts are always precise and I LOVE IT!!!

I just got the EVO swift shift kit, which also replaces the original plastic Porsche cable
linkages, which have stranded more than one owner on the side of the road. I'm
very happy and feel more secure.
