Finally started looking for a 996TT......
Hi everyone,
I sold my last sports car last summer, bought the wife a bigger house and now i am finally ready to buy a 996TT. I'm looking at purchasing a 2001, but i wanted to ask you all about "things" to watch for when searching for one.
Are there any common mechanical problems to be aware of?
Are there many mechanical problems, so buying one with a warranty is worth while?
Any other comments?
thanks
dc

Porsche Certified Pre Onwed (CPO) adds about $1600 to the price of a car for 2yr/100K.....this compares very favorably to purchasing your own aftermarket car warranty.
I am not aware of any major recalls or mechanical differences from 01 to 02 to 03, etc.
Some features becoming standard, appearance of a glove box in 02, shift from analog/copper wire audio systems in 01-02 to MOST (plastic fiber optics) in 03+.
This topic has been discussed (to death in some cases) many times before.
I don't think non members have access to the search function; I would suggest joining for that reason alone.
Best of luck,

I have (2) 2002 TT's, one street/one race. Never a problem with either car. My street TT has the X50 Pkg. while the race car was converted to the X50/GT2 Pkg. with modified ecu. Both car's have 7K for mileage.
Hope this helps,
Rick

The 996TT has been, since its inception, pretty-much bullet-proof. There have been tweaks from year to year and even within years, but the basic package has remained largely the same. There were more '01 and '02 models made than '03 and thereafter, so that may be where the good deals are. Happy hunting!

EDIT: well I just checked your website, safe to presume you maybe running on motons.

Jeeva,
No problem. Basically I'm running the Moton Clubsport Double adj. front and rear. I've changed the rear out to the motorsport shocks(still Moton) and was using that set-up at Sebring for the PCA Race. The reason for the change is I use much higher spring rates on the rears.
Exhaust on the car at Sebring was a B&B GT exhaust. I just picked up a Fabspeed Super Sport Loud from my good friends at Evolution Motorsports and will be trying that out in a few weeks at Mid-O.
Dave S. at Wheel Source can hook you up with the Moton's, their excellent. Let me know if you need any assistance with contacting Dave.
