alexander, if you get the rear wheels thru wheel enhancement (a calif company in excellence), 2 porsche part 10" rear wheels will be about $675 per wheel-no spacers needed.

I wassn't aware of that, but for the $700 savings, I think I'd have gone the tire rack route anyway. AS

alexander-i think that you have an apples to oranges comparison. wheel enhancement is selling you porsche original equipment, made by or for porsche. the tire rack is selling you wheels made by another source that, with a spacer, can fit. the wheel enhancement wheel is a 996 turbo wheel.

Hey doc,
I'm sure you're right. My Porsche service manager actually put me on to tire rack on this one. According to him, the wheel supplied by tire rack is made by the same supplier Porsche uses, and is a Porsche wheel in every way. It cetrainly looks like one. The spacer is to correct offset, and seems well made. In any case, the set-up works seamslessly- no vibration, straight steering, normal handling. Once I heard about this option, I didn't think to ask for a dealer-supplied wheel. AS

alexander-if it works, you can't argue with it.

OK, my car is only slightly slammed, hell, I can almost get my foot under the front lip.

I have a 600 hp snow plow, not a car.

Ok ok...

Mine isn't as low as yours, but it all depends on the shoes!

Color Change: Wow, that is low. Is that lower than what you would get with the x73?

Pierre: Excellent pic of boot, nice work!

I am at the bottom of GT-2 specs, and yes, I now pull the splitter for the street.

I will concur with most posts. Since December 2000, I have been using Michelin Piliot Alpins in 17 inch sizes for a standard 996 in the winter (and lately starting in late October since they are the only tires that pass inspection - the others are nearly-bald track tires, both 17" Victoracers and 18" Pilot Sport Cup). The rears work OK but look a little silly with no spacers.

It does plow snow onto the windshield at certain speeds and depths. It did fine at 1 AM Sunday going through Keene, Troy & Fitzwilliam NH in the January snowstorm we had in here in New England.

You get great stares from a lot of people when you do this.

Not sure how you get such good traction. My E55 struggles in the dry with traction - let alone in snow.

I don't see any problems. AS
Please forgive me, but that is the most ridiculous load of **** I’ve ever heard. You hardly have anything more than a wet dream of an experience with real winter driving. “The ride height has not been a problem & I live in a snow belt”. This is just plain BAD advice. A Porsche is plain and simple a bad winter car. Get a 4 wheel drive SUV with lots of storage for your snowboarding gear and forget about *****-footing around with your Porsche in the winter.
