That isn't what I meant. I was asking for an actual technique. Are they doing anything to specifically provoke the issue other than just driving the car?

If you can find a slightly steep hill near the dealership you can try driving up it in second gear and letting off the gas. That might pop it out of gear and that should be enough to encourage further inspection.

Does anyone know what transmissions the dealer is "allowed" or supposed to attempt to open or fix vs which ones they just exchange when there is a problem with a transmission under warranty. Seems like it is not consistant?
