Default 2001 Turbo - thinking of buying one

2001 turbo for $75k. Was look to learn what to expect in the way of maintenance etc. My current garage baby, a 2001 M3 cab with 21k miles, may be traded in for a 17k mile 2001 911 turbo (non tiptronic). What kind of maintenance issues are coming up for with miles and what do I need to look out for on these cars?

Any good sights to search for late model, low miles 996TT's?

PS - this would be my first Porshce 911 and know almost nothing about the maintenance issues to watch out for. I have read through the posts here and would aks for any help since it would greatley be appreciated!

Besides the plug change I just did, my 2002 has been maintenance free for over 18,000 miles.

research the car. call 800porsche and get all the history and options from the vin#. Then call its selling dealer and ask about its history. Then do carfax check for wrecks and title. Then have it checked by a dealer.

Is the Porshce Certified Warranty worth getting since this vehicle was bought, serviced and sold at this dealer? What has anyone paid or what would I expect to pay for this added item?

In my opinion, certified is worth it (generally the number I've heard is $1800- tho I could be wrong). There is almost nothing that can be repaired for that little. AS

Well I have a comparison for that based on a US dealer who sold and serviced the one that I am working on...

The CPO on the one that I am purchasing (at this point) costs $1550 plus the labor required to conduct the inspection. There is also the added cost of any items that must be replaced/repaired to meet the specs of the CPO (belts, hoses, brakes, maintenance items not yet completed, etc). In a nutshell it's at least $1550 + $500 for the 5-6 hours of labor to inspect the car.

FYI - I was quoted that the 15k service is $780 or so which includes the 15k brake flush. Does that gel with what others have paid?

Dock,
You mentioned a "plug change" Did you put the FR6LDC plugs in the car. What type were the old plugs and what were they doing that made you change.

Thanks

Larry

I replaced my plugs with OEM BERU 14FR-6 plugs, the same that were in my car from the factory.

My Turbo had developed a "soft" miss at WOT starting ~3000 rpm in 3rd and 4th gears. It runs perfect now.

I did the plug change myself...it was work!

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

I did it! I took delivery of my first 911, a 996 Turbo yesterday and love it!!! Now my e46 M3 cab is my "beater".
