After it was apparent that I would not often use or miss the 993tt, I sold it. No regrets, haven't even thought about it. Once you drive a 996tt for a while, you will be amazed what the car can do. IMHO, it's very entertaining. Get a PSS-9 suspension and a 100 cell cat exhaust and you will be all set. With the miles you log, it sounds like you drive the car a lot. The 996tt A/C is ice cold on a 100 degree day and the overall interaction / ergonomics of the 996 are awesome. Good luck......either decision is a great choice.

As far as value is concerned, who knows. I don't buy these cars and then worry about value. I just drive and enjoy them.
There's no better recommendation than that I have to admit I truly love both to bits. It's a hard choice. I haven't owned a 993TT but have a few friends that have them and hence driven them a lot. Owning one, I'd say the 996TT is more plush, forgiving and obviously more refined and up-to-date. The weakpoint are the suspension, which is absolute garbage and the heavier weight. It's undervalved, springs are to soft. The car understeers like mad and sways around too much. Of course this is all an easy fix

Vince, you wont regret it a bit. Now with some track time, it's even more enjoyable. My car is out of warranty but I plan on driving it for a very very long time.

I must have a very strong neck because I still have not experienced this neck snapping acceleration I guess I need more power.

It is many years since I have driven in a stock 993tt so I suppose I was getting a little carried away ( I was trying to illustrate the relative on/off torque delivery compared to the smoother motronic/variable valve controlled delivery of the 996tt) or were you being sarcastic

Vince - You do not say if you are the original owner of the car. The biggest expense that I see on a regular basis is turbos that need to be rebuilt due to scored shafts and wasted seals. This causes unreal leaking of oil into the intake and exhaust side of the turbos. Most of this is due to neglect when shutting down the car straight away when it is hot instead of waiting and letting the car idle. I just de-installed a set of turbos on another '96 yesterday, and I have another set to come out today on another '96. Before your warranty expires, I would have someone take a look at the turbos through the intake boot (simple to get at) and check the condition of the seals and bearing play. It may be well worth the effort.

'Get a PSS-9 suspension and a 100 cell cat exhaust and you will be all set.'

Dear John D II
What's a 100 cell cat exhaust and what is the advantage of having one?

Donney,

"100 cell cat" is short for a "100 cell catalytic converter", as opposed to the "400 cell catalytic converter", which comprises part of the factory exhaust system. Most of the tuner exhaust systems use 100 or 200 cell catalytic converters, as they are less restrictive (due to less cells per square inch) and flow more exhaust air at a higher rate of speed. This allows the turbos to "spool up" quicker, while improving air flow by reducing back pressure. In short, the end result is improved acceleration and better throttle response. A side benefit is that slightly more sound will exit the tail pipes creating a somewhat more sporty sound. I happen to like this mod, but if you choose this path, be careful, as many (but not all) of these performance exhausts are very loud or have high levels of unpleasant resonance (this is a whole separate subject that has been discussed a million times). I hope this answers your question.

TB, I was kinda kidding however I take that statement back as I have ridden in Bob's car Granted it's not quite a normal Turbo anymore but it does have neck snapping acceleration.

Good move. Thumbs up on the car. That is one of the best looking 993 TT I've ever seen. These guys are depressing me saying "you will never get another so nice." Even though I have a GT3 I'm jealous!
