Notice that time depends very much on type of track and german car have a tendency to do very well on german tracks.

"And this day in age with all these wannabe boy racers running around it can be hard to take japanese cars seriously but there are a few that are well engineered for track duty."

I agree, japanese tracks seem to have short straights and be very twisty. This is why you will see such close numbers in the lap times I posted. A course like nurburgring has just about everything, but it does have many high speed areas that will handsomely reward high horsepower cars like the 996 turbo.

You got to admit though, a 8.09 for the NSX-R is really impressive for a car with only 280HP! Check out what company its in:

Porsche 996 GT3 8.03 (8-1999)
Lamborghini Diablo GT 8.04 (7-2000)
Ferrari 575M Maranello 8.05 (12-2002)
Ferrari 550 Maranello 8.07 (6-1998)
Porsche 997 Carrera 2 8.07
Porsche 997 Carrera 4 8.08
Lamborghini Diablo SV 8.09 (12-1997)
Ferrari 360 Modena 8.09 (10-1999)
Honda NSX-R 8.09 (8-2002)
Chrysler Viper GTS 8.10 (10-1997)
Donkervoort D8 180R 8.10 (3-2001)
Mercedes SL 55 AMG 8.12 (4-2002)
Lotus Esprit Sport 350 8.13 (5-1999)
Dodge Viper SRT-10 8.13 (10-2004)

I had an Evo... sold it coz got bored (wasn't tracking). Wouldn't have traded my M3 for it.. forget a Porsche 996 Turbo. No comparison.

Capable track cars absolutely. Now that I am tracking my turbo and having a blast, I wish I had an Evo again to beat up on the track for at that price. Quite a bargain.

Evo driven well will beat a 996 Turbo driven ok on a track... it's all driver anyway. Why not drive a cheaper fun car like the Evo for the track over the Turbo.. and save/enjoy the 996 Turbo on the streets.

Default Let's end this, shall we???

to all my Porsche Brothers in arms...

I to respect the Japanese import-tuners, but that being said... I have something to show everyone who has 2 cents in this...

I too am an owner of a 03 996 TT and have modified the living googles from it... And yet... I also own a Mitsu EVO 8...

But let actions speak louder than words ever will do...

PLEASE watch...

I also have a highly modded 996TT(stage 5 21psi on 100 race gas). But I also have a VERY highly modified EVO8. Its dynoed 648 rwhp. its a 2.3 stroker engine, a gt35r turbo, Autronik rally stand alone with turbo lag, custom headers, intercooler and intake. Twin disk carbon clutch and a rally Final drive gear(tranny). Stopteck brakes, tien adjustable suspension.. etc.. etc. Doesnt look like a ricer... but a sleeper it is. It boosts 35 psi and REVS up to 10200 rpms all day long. I LOVE IT.
I ALSO LOVE MY 3rd TT. Two different cars on the street and track.
I have no shame, after owning a ferrari, a lambo, etc... to jump into my EVO for some fun.
