The refill is worth a shot, not a lot of work. The Eram is a great solution if it doesn't work. Cutting your rams apart and replacing the seals might work for you but it takes some mechanical skill. I thought to maybe do this for people but epoxying the rams back together is a bit of a janky solution to be responsible for.
