Default Random Technical Info BS Thread

I derailed the Xona Rotor XR1000 thread with my newbie questions...

I can't be the only one who has random questions but doesn't want to start a new thread for everything that pops into my head..

Ask anything regarding maintenance, turbos, suspension, modifications, tuning, etc

My TT is a 2003. It has green coolant in it but I know it's supposed to come with the pink stuff.

Is the green coolant eating away at my water pump seals? I am replacing one of the radiators soon and will be using the proper coolant.

Green Ethylene glycol coolant will not eat away at your water pump seals. But you should do your best to completely flush the system when your replace it with the pink OAT stuff.

Thanks! VW G12/40 or can I get away with Zerex G40? I've seen people reference it but not sure if anyone here has used it.

You can use the latest Zerex stuff is totally fine. It pretty much all comes from a handful of factories. You're gonna have to probably fill with water first to flush as much as possible.

You can safely use either green or pink/purple coolant in these cars as long as you don't mix them.

The Audi pink stuff is identical to the Porsche stuff, way cheaper.

That's a site all by itself.

...and they don't have a definitive answer.

My favorite are the guys on BITOG that re-use $8 Fram Ultra filters THREE times to prove how awesome they are. The new synthetic media and silicone anti-drain back valve are great but WTF is the point of re-using a cheap filter? It's the weirdest bragging right I've ever seen. I use them in my Ram but only once, hah.

I'm just about to do the 2500 mile oil change for breaking in the new motor on the Soobie - I have no idea what oil I should use.

Apparently Pennzoil is very well regarded nowadays?

Personally, I use Rotella T6 in everything I own that uses a 5-40. I guess they also have a 5-30 T6 now.

I have always been partial to Mobil products for gas engines; I use Rotella on the diesels. Maybe I'll try that - it'll be a short change anyways, only another 2500 miles, it'll be interesting to see if the oil consumption drops.
