I know some people with the 6-piston fronts need a brake proportioning valve to keep the ABS from freaking out with that master, but is it needed if you are keeping the standard calipers all around?
I have 997 GT 380/350 setup with 997 GT master cylinder and did not need a proportioning valve fwiw.

Ttheoretically yes, but actually? Not sure if the ECU can read vacuum on those tables or those tables can be changed to read vacuum without screwing up 100 other things. Standalones always add a post throttle MAP sensor in addition to the stock one. Probably not worth the hassle if it is even possible since drivability and accuracy on MAFless works well as is.

The need for the proportioning valve seems to be hit or miss. Some people need it, some people don't. It's easy enough to add after the fact so I think I'll do just the master cylinder for now and see if I need the extra parts.

Is this the GT3 master cylinder part #?

997-355-910-30

I don't like the spongey feeling in my brakes either. I hate comparing this cars braking to my DC2 because the car is so much lighter on its feet lol

you need better brakes to get rid of the spongy feel.

I am making a wild assumption that the 996 Cup ABS won't care about the master cylinder so I can get rid of the proprtioning valve.

Just a little note, the stock 996TT ABS with the 997TT master cylinder - even with the psm pump unplugged - is very susceptible to "ice mode" on track. I never ran into ice mode with the 996TT master cylinder, now it happens with alarming regularity. It's so bad I have been unplugging the ABS the last few track days.

I didn't need a proportioning valve even with stock ABS. Really odd how it effects some people and not others. I also converted to a 997 GT3RS brake booster at same time as the master cylinder and 380/350 calipers and rotors so maybe having the "complete system" has something to do with it. I didn't notice an increase in regularity with ice mode, but I was already driving around it in certain situations, I could hit it every lap if I wasn't careful in certain spots even before the change.

Has anyone ever run the 997 booster with the 996 master? Seems like this would be the easiest way to improve feel without getting into PSM issues.

Where does the proportioning valve get installed? In the frunk or beneath the car?

Ahh, I don't have PSM in my car at all. That could be why I didn't have an issue, seems like it is a PSM problem more than an ABS problem from that thread.

Yes, unplugging the PSM pump makes the proportioning valve a non-issue. Unplugging the PSM pump does not improve ice mode though.

Correct. Ice mode is inherent to the road car ABS unit. My PSM pump has taken up residence in a garbage dump somewhere for at least 7-8 years now but ice mode was an issue until the stock ABS unit came out.

Will the GT3 master cylinder mod cause "ice braking" in a street car?
