Question Remote key controls

I have a 2004 TT cabrio X50 that was supplied with the same key with 2 remote buttons (door and trunk) that is supplied with the coupe. The dealer says that is all they have ever seen (mine was the second cabrio to go through there), but the owner's manual shows a key with 3 buttons--one additional one that controls the top.

Do any of you know anything about the 3 button key?

Anyone who can clearly explain how the different security system settings are controlled by the key could do me a favor, too. I found the manual confusing. Maybe I'm just not as bright as I used to be.

Thanks.

I read in a magazine that the remote for the top was not imported into the US for safety/ liability concerns.

Exactly,
remote top is only for Euro cars....Wonder if the US cars are pre-wired though and if obtaining Euro keys and finding a way to activate the function would work??

Thanks for the info. That makes sense--THE STATE protects us again from a dangerous feature readily available in socialist Europe. I guess they just don't really care about THEIR subjects.

I am certain that if the key could be obtained, activation would be a simple matter of programming at the dealer.

the US cars are indeed prewired, just import a key, program it w/ PSW (replacement for PST2) and wa la, remote top

careful not to chop anyones head off.

There must be a lot of Porsche buyers who don't read the manual. I just took delivery last week and after browsing through the manual, one of the 3 questions I had for the salesman the next day was "why didn't I get the cab key, like it says in the manual". It wasn't a common enough question that he knew and he had to ask around before getting back w/ the answer already given.

If we figure out how to order Euro keys, I'm in for 2.

This is certainly one area where European philosophy is ahead of the collective perception/reality here: over there if a person does something stupid and injures themself, the official and publicly accepted line tends to be "well, you did something stupid and hurt yourself in the process. Don't do that again. You don't get rewarded for being an idiot, now go away!".

Here, a person does something stupid and hurts themself, and the immediate reaction is "who is at fault (other than my stupid self, of course)? who can I sue for big bucks so that I can avoid my culpability and responsibilities and go live in the lap of European luxury?". And our government facilitates this stain on our moral, social and economic quilt (regardless of party politics, this has been getting worse for decades; it's unfortunate some need to assign blame to one political segment). I wonder if it has something to do w/ the massive amount of campaign contributions and lobbyists that the trial attorneys of our great nation put forth? Hmmmmm....... fwiw

*BUMP

Anybody think up a way to get the 3-button Euro keys? Any chance to request from the factory or Porsche NA?

"Left of center" being defined as "anyone that won't listen"?

God I hate labels. They are ultimately meaningless.
