Default 600 hp "Chip"

My buddy just told me that he bought and installed a computer "chip" for about $3k that increased the hp in his '03 996 TT from 450 to 600 hp. You guys ever hear of such a "chip", or has he started drinking again? Thanks.

it does exist and I have iut on mine....the bump from 450 to 600 only works if you start with an X50 due to the larger K24 turbos...You also need a high flow exhaust though to see all the ponies....Lastly, never heard of this going for 3K, closer to 5K US

yea u're killing ur engine!

think about this, if u can only run only 10 mile per hour but u force urself to run 25 mile per hour will ur heart be able to take it or how long will it last?

sounds pretty dumb to me, if not, the stupid one is Porsche!

That is what is so nice about the 996 turbo...they can handle ~600HP without significant compromise to reliability.

You can easily make 600 HP with a chip, as long as it is a fully programable one. Simply keep cranking up the boost untill you hit the desired level. But keep in mind that would be somwhere in the 2 - 2.5 bar range and if you plan on using pump gas with that much boost, you can kiss your motor goodbye. Instead you would have to use really high octane like 115 leaded., and you know what that does to catylists! So the answer to your question is, yes you can make 600 HP with a chip only, but the tradeoffs are just not worth it in my opinion.

100% agree with 996racer. btw the max boost i've seen is 1.5 bar (not a good start already )

so the question comes to how long will u keep the car & do u care about the next owner

I run 93 octane and get near 500rwhp (almost 600 fwhp) with just a GIAC and exhaust on stock K24 turbos (started with an X50)

What if the 996 Turbo can run 35 MPH? Then pushing it to run 25 MPH (up from 10 MPH) would cause no problems.
not here to argue but my statement was based on the very first post which without modding a single thing besides the chip will give u extra 150hp. will that shorten the life of the engine? u tell me!
