Default Radio “PROTECT”

Recently purchased an extremely clean 12k mile 996TT. I’ve never personally done business with the seller before but they seem reputable. When the transport dropped off the vehicle, the radio was locked out with a PROTECT message. No signs of foul play and the car is great other than a super stiff clutch at the bottom of the travel.

I know the battery was replaced recently but the dealer claims the radio was working fine when the car was loaded for transport. Is the radio lockout something that can occur intermittently or a true sign of something happening in transport?

Mine has a code you have to unlock it with when you unplug the battery. I think the stealership can get you the code if you don't have it. Sometimes it can be written on the documents that came with the car.

All you need is the radio code to fix the problem. There are sources online you can get it from. Just do a Google search for, Becker radio code

Appreciate the insight and I was able to search and find the route for a solution. Maybe a better way to ask my question, is the fact that the PROTECT message is there a sign for foul play? Or does it just happen randomly? Seller said it was working as the vehicle was loaded on transport and then it wasn’t when it arrived…

It doesn't say what year the car is, not sure if that matters? but my CDR23 did not have a security code. I wonder which factory installed units did, vs those that did not require a code, and if that's tied to the model year.

I also have a 2003 and there is ( was ) no security code, nor did I ever see that "protect" screen message. The Becker CDR installed cars came with a small instruction/features book in the owners "folder". Do you have it possibly with your owners manual(s)? It would surely describe screen errors and causation.

Well…just started it up and the radio worked fine. Going to have the accumulator checked tomorrow so I’ll have them look at the radio as well…or maybe just pull the trigger on the Porsche Classic radio…🤔

not sure how it's possible, what radio is installed?
..
edit, just realized I'm thinking of the incorrect code "WAIT", not "protect"
