Default 996 Turbo Stereo Upgrade

At first, I'm looking for some basic direction for attempting to upgrade my stereo on my 2002 Turbo that originally had PCM with Bose speakers. This seems more complicated than all the engine/transmission work I've been doing lately on the car ha! It looks like the previous owner added a wiring harness for a Pioneer Avic D3 headunit. The amount of wires in there is staggering to me, and thus confusing. I've since removed the harness that was connected to the black and brown 8 pin connectors in the first picture. There's another harness with RCA connectors that only has two spliced wires coming from the original harness, and they are labeled Mute and System Remote Control. I've tried to look at the old posts relating to this, make I can't make sense of the wiring diagrams to see if it matches mine. I'll start with some of the basic questions if anyone can help me out.

1) What's the advantage of these much more expensive headunits, like a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX (LINK) vs a cheap Android headunit like the Atoto A6? (

)
2) For either scenario, could I still use my stock Bose AMP?
3) For the 2nd pic, all 3 of those connectors were not used on the Avic Headunit (except for the 2 spliced wires I described above). Will I most not likely need those? Perhaps it was for a CD changer and/or other options I didn't have?

That is exactly the reason mine went into the shop when the PCM started reading 01/01/2000, everyday, always, in 2018...

I think Carlo nailed it - I am aware that Pioneer has an adapter plug for the PCM.

IMHO given the functionality you want this $1400 unit is your best option.

Pretty sure my adapter was under $60 CDN and it works just fine.

The difference between head units is one is made in China and Pioneer is an old Japanese company. You're paying for better stuff. You can't still use the Bose amp and must bypass by either hard wiring the stereo to speakers or by using a converter for the MOST system.

Thank you for that clarification.

Which one did you do? Did you purchase the converter? Care to share a link if you did? Thanks

Wayyyyy beyond my technical abilities - Ralph's in Vancouver did it for me; they're very helpful, give them a call at 604 879 4281 and I am sure they can assist better than I; it was essentially plug and play, very easy.

There was already a Kenwood double din in there that previous owner butchered in that I cleaned all up, I bought my unit from Best Buy and picked up the porsche adapter. I cut off kenwood plug and re wired the new adapter in. To get all functions working on Alpine I also spliced in a 4 wire parking brake bypass so you don't have to mess with parking brake to get all functions
