Quick way to disable a car
#17
I intend to put a switch on the fuel pump and tuck it up under the dash somewhere; this will make it impossible to move the car, unless of course, someone knows where the interrupt is.

It seems that overcoming the immobilizer would be quite a task in itself. The only way to get a key is taking the car to the dealer and getting it done there. Are there other ways around this theft prevention system?
it wasn’t a 30 second ordeal to get the key programmed for the dealer either. It’s my understanding that a few attempts to start with the incorrect key will almost totally disable the system, but I could be way off on that. The only way I see around it is replacing all the theft components with matching used ones, but not sure what needs to be replaced?

Not sure a fuel pump cutoff, relay pull, or anything similar would give you any more peace of mind than just the factory immobilizer. They are a PAIN to defeat and very difficult to program a replacement key for, as anyone who lost their keys knows.
If they want it, they are going to grab it with a repo truck or flat bed, not try and somehow bypass the immobilizer and drive off.

My issue is moreso if someone breaks into my place and steals the keys, or I lose the key somehow near my place that they could lift the car from there.
Either way, easy little toggle switch hidden away.

Good comments from everyone. I like the banana in the tailpipe myself. My extended float down the Rio Grande was just cancelled because of low water, so it's less of a concern now, as it won't be unattended for several days. I think the immobilizer would be difficult to defeat, so I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks for all the comments.

After someone attempted to steal my 996 earlier this year (and was defeated by the immobilizer, but did lots of damage anyway), I now use this:

It's a visible deterrent that might keep someone from attempting to get in your car and cause thousands of damage.

That would most certainly be difficult to drive with; I used a quick release hub on a previous car but ultimately wired a micro switch into the ignition as I felt there was too much play in the wheel, and because I looked like an absolute dork carrying my steering wheel with me everytime I took the car out.
