Amazing work, I love seeing others care for and restore these cars like this.

Not to set off your OCD, but you should get carbon strips for the dash since your stock leather strips are scratched up.

Heading to the back of the car, there’s one area where these cars need a bit of help. The exhaust note. My car came with a tune and thanks to the sage advise here on the forum, it was suggested that I reach out to a tuner and make sure that what I currently have is safe for the car. There are lots of great guys that work on our cars and after a little research, I reached out to Kevin at UMW. He has been amazing!

So what I want to know is how do you get a tune on a car without doing an exhaust? Anyways, there were only two choices I could see, one, revert ecu to stock, or two, get an exhaust. I watched a bunch of YouTube and read a bunch of threads. In my first 996tt, I had a Europipe 2 loud back in 2003 and thought that was nice but not as loud as I’d like. I didn’t want drone. I did have a Kline inconel exhaust and headers on my old 991.2tts and that was not that much of an upgrade to my ear. I did leave the cats stock so that was probably my mistake.

after a bit of deliberation m I reached out to speedtech and bought their 2.5” loud version and started the daunting task of installing it. Turned out great!

Great packing

Bumper off!

100 cel sport cats

You can see through them

Oem cats are dense!

Car is in pieces

What have I gotten myself into?!?

All back together. No extra bolts, screws or parts. Win win!

Car sounds loud and very nice. Still haven’t taken it for its maiden voyage due to cold weather. Again, hoping for a warm week this week to get it out and experience this.

Hit up Clint for some lightsavers before you lose those taillights! Going to be posting a sound clip?

Another thing that had been bothering me was the window tint. It was dark in the cabin! I personally don’t like tint all that much. I think it does look good on certain cars. I generally like a lighter cabin especially at night. So, with the help of YouTube and my son, whose been my helper through much of this journey, we got a heat gun out, windex, some plastic razor blades, and paper towels and gave it a go. Took us about an hour and I can’t believe the transformation! It’s pretty simple to do. Just heat up the glass with a heat gun, use the blade to get an edge loose and slowly peel the stuff off. For the doors, we pulled the tint down to the edge of the door cards and left it hanging over the card. It worked as a nice drape so when we used windex and the blade to scrape off the old glue, we didn’t get really any mess on the door panels. The rear window was something we needed to take extra care not to get a blade anywhere near the defroster strips. Didn’t want to damage it.

Dark and faded old tint

Loosened the tint with heat

Left the tint attached at the bottom and it worked well as a drape when we used windex and blades to get the glue off.

I can see the interior again!

I'm with you, my Grey 996 has no tint....and I really like the look. So much that I won't give it up, even in Las Vegas heat. I do like the tint on my Silver 996 though.

@iownedu thanks man! You beat me to it with the lifesavers. See below. When I took the tail lights out of the car to prep the bumper removal, the eyelets disintegrated. I found a post here on rennlist showing these bad boys off and bought a set of metal ones. I also needed some all weather floor mats to keep my carpets clean and picked up some front ones from suncoast. A bit pricey, but they snap in to the existing plugs that anchor them to the floor. I think they look fantastic and will really save on cleaning up here.

Metal lifesavers installed

Porsche oem all weather floor mats

Looking good!

As far as the center dash strips go, I am going to put in a second order to db carbon for them, the horseshoe, and a few other pieces to complete the interior.

Very nice, I love the black and carbon accents on the grey interior. So much nicer than boring black on black on black interiors!
