Default Coolant Vacuum Tool

Anybody have a favorite tool for use on refilling the coolant system on the Turbo or M96 996 cars. One of my Hoses developed a leak from the Electrical connectors dropping down the rubbing through the hose 996.106.501.177 on right side of engine compartment.

I see a Hazet set and Baum Tool set, but wondering what people use for Coolant replacement process to replace coolant and bleed the System.

Thanks,
Mike

I use an air compressor fitting with a rag to seal the opening and I blow it through with short bursts of air.

I never use any special pump or tool.

Like Jferrante I raise the rear end, fill it up, run the engine with filler cap off, top it off, replace filler cap, drive the car for 30 minute with pressure relief valve on the expansion tank in the open position, let the engine cool, top off, close pressure relief valve, check level a few times after more drives, top off as needed, done.

Gravity. After a quick drive, very carefully (with a rag covering the cap) remove it and it will suck the remaining into the system and you can top off.

For removal, take the little hose off the overflow and under the left side of the car remove the coolant hose and put in a bucket. Then with an air hose and a rubber air tip, you can evacuate all the coolant into the bucket.

I have the Schwaben version of the coolant vacuum tool. It's significantly cheaper than Hazet or Baum, but works the same way. It has quality parts - I'm not sure the pricier ones are any better.

I suggest you push it through via my method or with the proper tool. You could get air trapped and cause damage.

Filled it, capped it, ran it, un-capped it, repeat a couple of times, done.

Thanks,

While I have done the things, others have suggested, I think using one of these makes it simple and efficient for removal and replacement of coolant/water quickly and w/o air pockets.

It really is painless, simple, and quick as long as you have a decent air compressor. You can also pressurize the coolant system with this tool before filling, to make sure there are no leaks, which is comforting if you have done work on the radiators or other parts of the coolant system. Good luck.

If you do use the vacuum pimp method I highly remind you do a 30 minute drive with the the pressure valve on the expansion tank open and then let the engine cool. Even with the vacuum pump method sometimes hoses collapse and trap air.
