The plug set ordered came with plug covers

got hit with 996 battery rundown because when its in the garage I leave it unlocked
it's a PitA and completely avaoidable

developed the habit of actuating the frunk lever when I shut the car down
semi-permanent install of a CTEK and I just leave it in the front storage - if I feel like it I'll plug it in
definitely in the next day or 2
fold an old tee shirt or rag to lay on the locking mech so it doesn't accidentally catch

Just moved to nyc and for the first time in 8 years my 996.2 C4S has a dead battery! Too much time on the subway and not enough time driving to Montauk for a surf!

im going to pick up a CTEK MXS5.0 and a cig lighter indicator plug.

As I have no experience with trickle chargers let alone these which seem to be pretty option heavy, does anybody have some tips for a newbie? Any particular modes I should ensure I’m on? Any P-car unique things to do when charging through the cig lighter?

cheers.

Why are you guys having to worry about a dead battery? What's putting the drain on the battery? I have a BMW battery in mine, which is what my indy recommended. So far, so good.

The clock and alarm drain it out - mine always sits on charge when not in use.

As mentioned, there are draws on the battery when the car isn't running.

When my Turbo is in my garage and isn't going to be driven for several hours, it's on a battery charger

Several HOURS?

How long are you guys letting it sit that the battery drains to the point of no use? My car has sat for several weeks with no issues. The clock and alarm shouldn't drain it to the point of not being able to start. None of my cars have that problem. And it's only good for the battery if the battery is abnormally drained or the car is going to sit for long periods.

The PO of mine let it sit once for a couple of weeks when away on vacation; didn't plug it in, dead upon return - seems easier to just leave it on a trickle.

I guess I'm just more inclined to not believe it should be dead after a couple of weeks off of a charger. I'd rather not have to worry about something that you shouldn't have to worry about!

Yes.

If I'm taking the car out again within several hours I don't plug it in.

For many people, these are third, fourth, or fifth cars so it is possible for them to sit for several weeks or several months without getting driven. If I know ill be driving my car within the next several days I don't put it on the maintainer but if I don't know when the next time I'm going to take it out it will always get plugged in. Never have to worry about a dead battery and my batteries last a very long time.

I get it, esp if the car won't be driven for months. This is my weekend toy, car number 3 and I have 5 motorcycles. I understand the battery maintenance approach. I just don't get that people accept that the battery to be dead after sitting for 1 or 2 weeks is ok.

Current stable consists of:
1) Ducati 848 that was part of the Bobby Fong/Michael Beck Daytona Sport Bike team in 2009.
2) 2008 Yamaha R6
3) 2009 DRZ 400SM
4) 2011 DRZ 400S
5) 2003 Honda XR200R (15horse power and passing Harleys at the Dragon)
6) 2020 Ducati Hypermotard 950SP (most fun on a bike yet)
The pic of the grey fairing bike is actually my old 2001 Ducati 996, just love that photo.
I'm an instructor at JenningsGP during my off time from work.
Random pics to follow

This is actually my old 2001 Ducati 996. Great bike.
