is it not the windscreen wiper stalk one pulls to activate the washer nozzles? the mechanism is housed in the headlamp assembly, as you know.

is there another "washer" of which i am unaware? that would be news!

The wiper stalk is pull for front windshield washer, push for headlight washers - so it works both? I have never used the headlight washers on my cars.
And there's no washer for the back window, right? I've never used the back wiper on any of my Turbos either.
My VW is pull for windshield washer, push for back window washer. That's why I ask.

lol it does as far as i have ever known. but i may have the "push/pull" sequence wrong? ( but don't think so ).

when i "pull" the stalk. the washers activate. it will "open" and activate the washer nozzles that sit inside the headlamp enclosure. there is only one activation feature i am aware of. if you try to use it at speed over say 20 mph the shiny part will magically detach and fly away.

whether it "cleans" the headlamp while it activates the windscreen washer, i do not know. i have only hoped that it would "wash" the windscreen.

whew. big snow day here. wiper blades are frozen solid.

The stalk controls both; press the stalk forward with the headlights in either low or high beam and the headlight washer system activates. Pull the stalk rearward and the windshield washer system activates.

Regarding the windshield washer system, there are two aft positions. The first position aft causes the washers to spray and when the stalk is released the wipers activate for a few drying wipes. In the second position the windshield washers spray and the wipers activate for long as the stalk is held full aft.

now you mention it, yes there is a pressure sensitive "two position" activation on the stalk. it is my belief and continuing understanding that either position actives the nozzles which causes the shiny part ( attached to the nozzle mechanism ) to move as the nozzles "open".

- - and why it should not be activated while driving at speed. which in my estimation is a design curiosity that would make rube goldberg proud. at least the rear spoiler won't fly away once activated.

it's incredible to me that a car as well designed as this arguably is, would have the potential for the nozzle "cap" to break and dislodge from its assembly - if you attempt to wash your windscreen while driving.

At least on a 2002 the headlight washers do not activate when the stalk is moved aft.

lol truer words. Hit it once about 2 weeks after buying the car. cost me $75, have not hit it since in 4 years.
