any major difference between '01 and '04 Turbo?
Dealer called saying they had '04 Turbo, 1300 miles for $119k. Probably a pretty good price but I only wanted an '01.. which can be had around $80-90k (my price range).
Just curious what the '04 brings to the table besides being newer.
Thanks in advance.

Having just gone through this -- I was not able to find any major changes. I think only the very early builds had the bumperettes -- I never saw one with them!
Most of the 01's do not have the hollow turbo wheels -- you can check -- if they have ribs in the rear of the spoke it is not hollow
The later cars have the glove box - A nice thing to have since there is not much room.
Also Bose standard -- This is a plus if you were never going to do any changes to the system. It is a minus if you were, because the system has integrated amps making changes more complex.
The 01 certified from Porsche was a good way for me to go - I felt that it was a better buy than a new one. Also in reality I would not have spent the money for a new turbo. With the drop in value of a new C2 I felt that the 01 was a good value.
Also it looks like it will be around even after the new 997 comes out.

nav system became standard in 2003 in improved form.
also the 2 additional years of warranty coverage becomes a substantial advantage in a porsche certified car with 100k warranty--just think, that 2004 would be covered by a transferable porsche warranty until 2010 if you are under 100k mi!

my 2003 996 tt did come with nav as standard equipment--perhaps as a midyear change?
i don't think we have dvd based nav system. just a better cd based system than the 2001.
the bmw and lexus nav systems are much better. too bad they come attached to bmw's and lexi

My source of information is my dealer. Obviously a dealer can be wrong, or worse yet Porsche or the dealer could have intentionally withheld information so folks like me would purchase the remaining late '01s. That's why I am asking about your source of information.

Hey Pete,
Another TT owner and I had a long running argument about this, he said it was, I said it was not. Finally, I asked a contact of mine who worked for PCNA to get me the final word. PCNA faxed me 6 pages of information out of their Service Guides and Sales Guides that said the 02 cars were stiffer than the 01 cars. I lost the argument...
