Which AWD Dyno is bad?
Sorry I ran a search, but couldn't find the post I was looking for. I am looking for the one with Alex (Sharkster) and his Dyno problems... Champion Porsche just opened their new Champion Motorsports building near me with an inground 4 wheel dyno and I want to take a run on it, but it is a Dyno Jet and this name seems to ring a bell... Is this the one to avoid?? I know Mustang is good, but how about Dyno Jet?? I Can't believe a place like Champion would get one that is not linked, but hey ya never know .
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

I think the issue, at least with Sharkster, is with the type of transmission. Even on a linked AWD dyno AND turning off the PSM, a Tiptronic shod turbo will still have problems. I work very closely with a close friend of Sharkster's and he said they tried to turn off all electronics that have to do with PSM and even the Tiprtronic tranny and it would still kick on in some instances and cause issues on the dyno. The dyno they used was linked.
But still in general cases, you want a truly linked AWD dyno for awd car testing.

A tip will not properly, period. It unloads the TQ converter to shift. We tried to trick it, shut it down, we finally took our three runs and threw our arms up in the air. I was even in the car trying to coach Dan on how to drive Alex's tip. Nothing worked. That was not an issue of the dyno rather an issue with the tranny function. I could have locked the TQ converter down but a shattered tranny on the first day of the shootout would have been any thing less than spectacular.

Is this only a problem with tiptronics trannies, or would this be a problem for the manual as well? I don't own a P car (yet) so I don't know much about them. Is the center diff a viscous coupling type? I can only guess that your concerned is that the drums will be spinning at different speeds, and could cause damage to the AWD system on your car?
My other AWD cars all use "permanent" systems, so this is a little new to me.
Thanks

Hey Evan, as Stephen said, if it's not mechanically linked don't even dare try it Just disconnect the front and do it RWD style...

I understand that they need to be mechanically linked (front and back) but does it matter how they are linked?
