I think you might be wrong about Chinese knock off. I'm not a 100% sure.

I blew up an intercooler, and have had to place my stockers back on.
I have learnt that the X50 intercoolers are in fact different than the standard turbo ICs, and different again from the GT2RS intercooler upgrade.
It would appear that there are some interesting options ranging from a $200 set on Ebay all the way to a direct 4.5" bolt in affair from SRM. I am tempted to buy a set of the cheap ones just because they are cheap, and I was thinking about setting up a test rig to a) see if they hold pressure, and b) what kind of temp drop there is in a controlled test. Then I think about when I would find the time to do this, and go back to looking at proven parts that are readily available.
My question to the board is - outside of the obvious factory upgrade, whose ICs are you using, and why? The one's that were blown up were EVOMS, so it is unlikely I will go back to them, but am real curious as to what others think...
Cheers,

For your intended use, the 997.2 intercoolers are a no brainer. I got a perfect used pair for $500 a couple months ago, and there are others to be had in a similar price range. Data logs show significant improvements in intake temps.
Don't overthink it. I know the aftermarket is appealing due to the bling factor and the prices (high prices fool you into thinking it's somehow better). The bar n plate intercoolers are not what you want for your intended use. And plastic end tanks are not a big deal. The reports of failure are overblown and it's because of selection bias. You're not going to be running 30psi so it's a non-issue.
The only thing I see standing in your way of the 997.2 intercoolers is the fact that you don't want to trim the factory IC ducting...

^ although i don't have them, the consensus has always(?) been that the 7.2 i/c's are the most beneficial oem upgrade for performance and cost for non designated track car. i only wish there is still a future in which i regret not having them. but i blasted around today for a bit in 85+ temps. heatsoak/shmeatsoak. i can't tell.

Has anyone tried 991 intercoolers yet? They look very similar to 997.2 and appear to have the outlets in the same places as the 996/997? Much better availability than the 997.2 as well.
Edit: looks like they would physically fit on our cars, but the outlets point the wrong direction.

The do88s are from a Swedish outfit I believe. Good stuff, I had them fitted as an upgrade to the 9e28 kit for my TTS. I doubt Ken would be offering these if they weren't any good
d088 vs stock
Nice fitment
It is what it says on the tin
