Default Injectors

Just curious to know what you guys have been using to clean the injectors and how often are you doing or having it done?

When I first purchased my car many years ago it had been sitting for some time due to the owner passed away unexpectedly. It ran great but would occasionally stumble slightly accelerating from an idle. I gave it two consecutive doses of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner and that solved the issues. Since then I exclusively use Shell Premium 93 or Chevron Premium and feel no need to for any other additives. I do drive and track my Turbo pretty regularly though which keeps everything flowing. The more you drive these cars the happier they are.

Factory units are about $70 Canadian per; just replace them and save yourself the hassle - the car is getting on for fifteen plus years old....

So the fuel system cleaners you can get from the local auto parts store actually work? Sounds like something I should do.

You should also try an E-gas reset. Do a Google search for instructions.

Also check to see that the gas pedal has not become disconnected from the actuator rod. It is ball and socket set up on the back side of the pedal. It can sometimes pop out resulting in sluggish throttle response.

When I got my car, removed the fuel filter and cut it open, it was black with much.

Not knowing how much made it through to the injectors, it was cheap and easy to replace them...

I researched it and uses this stuff
https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=...9aACCDk&adurl=

Same active ingredient as Techron. I put a full bottle in 1/4 tank, drive it for 10-15 minutes to get a good shot of high concentration through, then fill it up. I also use it on my Audi and Cayanne that have direct injection engine. Supposed to be extra good preventative maintenance for DI engines with the carbon build up issues. 99K on the 996 turbo, 165K on the Audi Q5 and still going strong. Don't put many miles on the Cayanne (mom Porsche as the girl at the bank called it).

Chevron w/ Techron is the best and actually worth the money.

You should never have to do this on a regularly driven car. Stumbles, other issues are more likely plugs, coils, etc. than the injectors.

The Redline Sl-1 has the exact same chemistry in it that Techron does and possibly a little more of it for the $. Both are good to reduce the carbon buildup that can happen on valves injector tips and combustion chamber surfaces.

Regularly driven may be the key. On the LN Engineering videos of the various failure modes of the M96, they cite clogged injectors as a primary contributor to bore scoring. Lucky for us it’s not so much of an issue with Mezgers.

The 'proper' way to do this would be to pull them, send them to someone with a flow bench (RC comes to mind...), have them cleaned and balanced, re install.

Again, the factory units are available at such a good price, I don't think I would bother with the hassle.

Do you have any idea how much work/cost is involved replacing the injectors?

Bought injectors along with spark plugs for preventative maintenance ended up returning injectors for a restocking fee.

Dunno how you would do the passenger side without taking the engine out.
