Default Safari 996. Very practical.

These cars are amazing and super handy. Moved the roof basket from wife’s car to my bike bars. I had to return a computer, printer and boxes of paperwork to previous employer. And carry my new set of ohlins coilovers to docwytes house for install day. These are the before pics.

after 8 hrs (total in 2 days) ohlins are on. Love the new set up. Huge improvement in looks, comfort and performance over the previous owners set up. PO put on HR springs over oem struts. Terrible set up.

Looking good! I need a little breather before installing another set of coilovers on a 996 turbo!

Lol I have H&R springs on stock struts courtesy of the PO. Not a fan... looking forward to a better suspension in my future.

ride was better than expected but not optimal for sure. I thought about pss10s but they are impossible to find.

I would have done a fixed strut and aftermarket spring combo But you only pay for coil overs once. Plus the quality of ohlins were worth the extra 1k.

thanks to docwyte for the access to lift and labor. Thanks to tank95 for the recommendation and review.

happy owner.

Nice, I’m not alone. Lol

On PSS9s. Ride height 1” above stock. Nokian Hakka 3s as step below non-DOT Michelin rally tires. Skinnier rears to induce oversteer easily. Going for rally not safari.

Roof rack with basket and bike attachment leftover from previous 996/997.

I’d like to improve low speed compression and heard Ohlins R&T is better than PSSx for this. Can you describe more the change in ride of your car? What was your spring rate previously?

Love the rally over safari. My goal was to improve joy of driving the car as a canyon carver and fun driver. With HR over oem struts I avoided driving the car. It was too low and jittery. Hr over bilsteins b8 or Konis would have been better but the PO went another route. I have only driven the car 20 miles so far and now I won’t drive it till next weekend due to travel. I will send a better report once I return and address one little annoying clunk that’s I am getting. Probably the sway bar since I didn’t torque them down with wheels on the ground. But will address that first, drive it more and let you know.

passenger front sway bar end link was loose causing the clunk on pot holes. retightened everything. Ohlins are a dream. Incredible slow speed comfort. The car is super sure footed and comfortable. Night and day difference, as expected, over the HR springs over stock shocks.

We installed the Ohlins at manucturer height recommendation which is -10mm over stock. Set the stiffness at 11 from firm, in the middle tilted a little towards firm from middle.

Between the quality of parts, instructions and end results, this has been a very positive modification. Next is to put another 100 miles on the car and take it in for alignment.

Highly recommend Ohlins. They are becoming the only option since Bilstein is hard to source lately.

Thanks for feedback. Sounds great for my intended application except for ride height objective. May stick with current Bilstein PSS9. I did errands yesterday with extra passengers and cargo in the car. Pleasantly surprised that the suspension behaved more to my liking. Leads me to believe that softer springs in the PSS9s may work.
