Default Drag Strip Question

I know this may be an odd question BUT.....I am taking the TT to the drag strip for the first time ever.

Any launch tips? The clutch and flywheel have less than 5 k on them and don't want to mess them up. Car is not stock with FVD stuff and no cats or muffler.

It will be interesting to see what she does.

You're probably not going to want to do this, but I remember the auto magazines testing the 996 Turbo at the drag strip and getting the best times with launches that were in the 4000 RPM range with them side stepping the clutch.

Axle hop tended to be a big issue they had to work around.

If you focus more on trap speed than ET, it will be much gentler on your clutch... And skip the water box and burnout.

It will be a humbling experience. The 996tt is a hard car to launch.
I've had my best times lowering the pressure to 25 in the rear and about 30 in the front. Warning, every time I've gone to the track my wheels slipped inside the tires, which makes your wheel balance all out of whack.
That was with Nitto Invo tires which I've heard are notorious for this... plus I'm sure the tire shop guys slobbed the lube on them during install.
Anyway... feel it out. Best launches for me have been around 3k rpms and slipping the clutch while feathering the gas on... it's a tough dance and I stink at it.

Good luck. Post the times.

If you dont wanna mess your drivetrain up you should roll. No matter what you do you have a chance at snapping axles killing your clutch or destroying gears. That being said if you want to launch without wheelhop rev to 4k clutch all the way down on launch let up 50% slip it your rpms drop to 3k then drop your clutch and nail it. Also turn psm off. You can drop the clutch at 5k if you want but there is a good chance you lose life on some parts if you keep doing that.

If youre tip just hold brake rev to 4k let boost build and leterrip

I suggest you get the dig racing out at this event and start finding rollers, it takes big money to turn 996tts into sub 11 cars where you can drop 3 grand into a c5z06 and you have a 11s car.

Its a manual. Lots to learn. We can run as many times as we want so

Will I risk control issues with PSM off?

Be ready for the car to pull right if you get wheelspin
And whatever you do, do not miss 4th lol...

If you leave psm on youll get a ****load of shudder and youll have the ecu controlling throttle instead of you.

Almost all drag strips start the run via "roll out", meaning the timing doesn't start until your rear tires completely clear the laser beam. You can use that to save your drivetrain. You don't have to nail it right off the line, try to catch the tire grip as close to the break away point as is prudent and accelerate off, the twin turbos will do the rest.

As others have said, no PSM.

Thanks guys. I like the idea of a rolling start to save wear on the clutch etc.
