It auto selects after how much load you are putting in, among other criterias. Nothing you can really use to "change gear". It's an automatic function to aid traction versus response.

To make the ATF oil temp sensor read cold the whole time for 1. gear starts isn't a good solution. That temp sensor needs to measure the correct temp all the time.

Like Carlo sais, heat is the enemy. That's why Porsche installed an oil/water heat exchanger for the ATF, which is operated by vacuum from the engine via a solenoid. The other enemy is not running fresh oil with a new filter. The tips oil should be changed at least every 60.000 km. At least! And with a new filter every time.

Hi Carlo: thanks for asking. Replaced Maf sensor. Plugs had to be replaced. Had locals look at the car and none could nail it. One guy said engine failure.
Flat towed it to Porsche of Orlando. The consensus is that shops need Porsche OEM diagnostic equip.
Car runs greatt.

Glad you got it worked out.

I am down in Wilbur this week. The weather and the water have been great. Jealous of you getting to be here all the time.
