Carlo - Too bad you don't have a manual transmission 996 Turbo because you'd be a perfect candidate to do some reverse gear testing for this guy.

I have manual transmission 356C. I could do some reverse gear testing with that.

The Tip transmission in my 966 actually has two reverse gears. I can hit 100mph going backwards, think that is useful information for this thread?

I think that is the real question. They may have been swapped (if it's possible to do so). I'm also sure what you're feeling is real and that it's equally difficult to explain with words. Some things just are.

It sounds like what you're saying is that it is difficult/impossible to control the speed of the car in reverse by feathering the clutch and the accelerator pedal. If so, this goes beyond the difference in feel of a LWFW.
I also have LWFW on both my 993 and my 996 TTS. The TT has a RS clutch like yours. There is noise from the LWFW lash but it doesn't bother me. In the summer, I quieten it down by turning on the AC. The added load on the engine is enough to help with the noise. In the winter, I turn up Hendrix and Joplin so I can't hear it.

By the way, Is your car idling at a higher rpm than before?

After 3 weeks of bad weather, I think it might be good tomorrow. Since my TT has LWFW I could take it out to a parking lot and test it. Honestly, I never noticed whether I have to keep my foot on the accelerator for it to keep moving.

That would be great.

I think it would be appropriate for you to see how slow you can back out of a parking space. You'll may have to use a GPS for your speed though since I doubt your 356C speedometer indicates speed when the car is moving backwards.

So what was the difference before the transmission work?

1st = 3.818:1
Reverse = 2.857:1
Like maybe 1 mph faster at idle rpm in reverse as compared to idle rpm in 1st?

And thanks for the introduction. Oh, wait a minute...
You should change the “O” in your screen name to the appropriate “I” that is better suited to you and your beloved 996.

And if you drive your car on track on a regular basis, you might understand my concern.

He doesn’t do that because he believes I that is the reason the coolant tubes come out.

The reason why I don't drive my 996 Turbo on the track is because there is no need for me to do that.

So cdk4219, tell me how driving a car (or truck for that matter) regularly on a track provides someone a better understanding of the skills, techniques, and vehicle dynamics involved with backing a car than someone who drives strictly on the street.
